  • hemochromatosis and polycythemia

I have both polycythemia and hemochromatosis. Both cause a rise in RBC and hematocrit, as a result I have to get bled at the hospital every 2 weeks to keep the values in check.
I have been studying how to cause anemia which is what I need to bring my values to normal.
This last time I went to the hospital to get bled I did not need it. Here is what I did. I cut out all iron supplements and all B vitamin supplements. I can take vitamin C but not at the same time as any protein.
The BP med Lisinopril helps a lot too.

I know this is little more than bro science but it is worth a try if you are tired of getting bled all the time

Fuzo has this too and has for years. he used to give 2 units od blood a week and it moved those numbers down a little but not much. watching your diet is a good thing.

Please keep us posted on how this continues.

I will have to adjust Fuzos diet. He loves his red meat, lol. So funny cause I am anemic, as many women tend to run low ieon. We are opposite in my house

i bet if you also limited your red meat consumption to 1-2x per week only it would lower your rbc and iron levels as well. liver hell yeah it is loaded with all the goodies iron, b vits and a ton of other stuff. that's pretty cool you are using a little trial and error to control it as well

I monitor it pretty close when I go to get bled. I read a lot of med journals and trial and error taking not of what changes were made and the results. So far so good.

Following this diet I am getting bled every 5 weeks instead of every 2 weeks.

My iron gets high too. I just give blood and mine is ok tho. My wife is anemic also, so we eat alot of red meat and I hate chicken, so red meat and seafood are about the only choices for me.
