I would have used to say just work past it, but if you rest honestly you will probably come back stronger than you were before you even hurt it.
I do have some pretty good insurance however their protocol is pt then a mri. So im kinda in the middle of trying to pt it myself or go in. If I knew they would mri it I would be there in a sec. Unfortunately, im not a super star athlete so the docs really dont care a whole lot. Especially if I can use it. If I go in there say I want to be sure its not torn for lifting weights they would laugh me out the door.

Yea unfortunately most docs won't listen if its some sports related thing, they dont understand that. I got lucky and finally found one that will listen to me. They all have that bs protocols you have to go through until you get to know them, then if they are a good one they will work with you.

you could always go in and say hey i was climbing my stairs holding the rail and slipped with all my weight bearing down on that arm. woke up and blah blah blah. i think i may have a torn muscle and need an mri. that would be a good excuse. i would also find a better ortho and pt place also. other than before i got out of the military i have had zero issues with the ones i have seen

Bruising is getting much better and have not used it till this morning when I pushed an old mans dead truck half a block. I have full range with no pain. It's a mental killer right now. I'm always wondering if I'm doing something to injur it further. No loss of strength or any new symptoms. Hope it just continues to heal.

Re: Not sure what to do

Thought I would post a little update. About two weeks into this now and the bruising is gone. I have full range of motion pain free. However, I can tell something is still not right. Nothing more than the initial injury and its getting better but I'm not going to test it anytime soon. I have worked around it and for the most part it is fine. Early last week I did a heavier session and I could tell that not everything was as it should. It did not hurt and there was no loss of strength but my body was saying "hey man, WTF are you doing!? take it easy." So I listened and have been very cautious. I dont take many things to absolute failure and am quick to stop if there feels anything like pressure on the area. Its a pain in the ass but its getting better. Just thought I would let ya know.

It's really important you get it checked out bro, like fuzo said, if you don't you could be missing something that needs to be fixed and when it goes it will go way worse than you have now. This is exactly what my surgeon said too.

In the end I didn't need surgery and fighting the rehab trail now and it's not fun. My muscle tear was pretty big and will take time but at least I didn't do tendon or insertion damage.

Re: Not sure what to do

Just thought I would update this. It's been about a month now. I still have not tried to do any type of weighted pull down motion. It does not bother me at all, and when I lift it does not hinder my motion or strength. I am probably not even going to try do any exercise that focus on the lat specifically for another four weeks. I am happy that it seems to be healing on its own and it has certainly not regressed any. I stretch it out and I do lifts that use the lat in a more secondary way and it seems fine. With luck I will start to slowly test it out in another four weeks.
