  • aerobics without using legs

Many know I have limited use of my legs. They have strength and flexibility but the nerves are damaged, so I use a walker for support.
I want to do aerobics too mostly the HIIT variant. So what form of aerobics/HIIT can I do with upper body?
I want to do a separate exercise to challenge my balance too. The form of nerve damage is called cerebellar ataxia also nerve induction shows loss
of nerve use in left leg.
I still do leg presses seated and strength is still there.

Bro when I broke my sacrum I could not do anything dynamic with my legs. I asked my physio about that. She said swimming was the best. I used to swim laps until the gym with the pool closed. Honestly it helped my shoulders, rotator ect.

Man that sucks I'm sorry you have to deal with that but you seem to have a good attitude

I NEVER did any cardio, even precontest sometimes, fast meta6but like you said I just turned 50 and things are changing I need to put in cardio not for fat burning but for cardiovascular help.

What can you do with limited use of your legs? You say you do leg presses so you must have some strength there or is it something affects you over a period of time and not long like a set of presses?

I've seen people use those hand held machines where you are basically pedaling with your hands not sure how effective it is.

      Definitely good luck to you

I have some strength in my legs. It is mostly balance issues that messes me up.

I'm with Jipped, I think swimming is awesome and would have minimal impact on your joints and legs. I might start incorporating some of that into my training as we get closer to summer.

hand bike seated battle ropes and rowing come to mind. if you want a serious kick in the nuts the rower and battle ropes will test your mental fortitude for sure. i am pretty damn good cardio shape and the rower wrecks me big time. plus the rower is eccentricless so it doesnt hamper your recovery to bad or at all for some

I always forget about the rower lol. I'm going to alternate that in too. I get so bored with cardio, so hopefully switching it up will make it more interesting.

that damn thing kicks my ass as much as the stepper does and that's usually the only thing that gets my heart rate up. it is brutal

You seen that rope apparatus that some gyms have that is usually up above your head and you pull the rope down. That this is an ass kicker.

Oh shoot thought of another one for no weight on legs and is heavily upper body, yet full body workout. It’s sometimes used in martial arts warm ups but best I can describe it is “animal training”. The one I’ve saved to try out someday when it starts to cool off…is four animals. Chimpanzee is one of them and Gorilla is another. I think those were the only two I saved to do on a park day or off day sometime!

I will take a kettle bell (light one) and run a little drill. Pull to a count of 30 and do a kettle bell movement for biceps shoulders or torso, something that is in a completely different form or mod to work something a different way. Then repeat. Do that until I can’t do it anymore lol

i am not a functional fitness guy obviously but if we are being honest, i hate cardio worse than anything on this earth. military prob made the hate even worse with run swim run etc.... i will say that i dont mind some eccentricless work with the prowler or sled. breaks your ass off and doesnt hammer your recovery at all 99% of the time. you can do drags, rows presses, curls and pretty much anything you can think of with it. i have given myself my partners wife and kids prowler flu more times than i can count. hell one prep we would be outside doing it in july/august with it around 100 or higher and absolutely killing it. man, i may need to dust it off and add it back in. it just sucks at my normal gym because i have to drag mine out and pull all of the stuff outside do it and then put it all back away. one of our other gyms that is a little further away has an area to do it inside but we only go over there every now and again when the mrs is off
