  • Jose Aldo Out of UFC 189

The same day he said Jose Aldo is in, Dana White then said he's out.
White went on SportsCenter on Tuesday and announced that Aldo has withdrawn from his UFC 189 bout with Conor McGregor due to a rib injury. That the being the case, Plan B is now a go as McGregor will face Chad Mendes for the UFC interim featherweight title.
“Andre Pederneiras, [Aldo's] coach, called and basically said that Aldo’s rib is too painful and he will not be fighting,” White said. “Jose Aldo’s pulled out of five title fights. Conor’s ready to go. The No. 1 guy in the world, Chad Mendes, is ready to go. So it makes sense. They’ll fight for the interim title and whenever Jose Aldo is ready then that fight can happen.”
Aldo reportedly injured a rib during a training session last week and Brazilian doctors diagnosed him with a fracture. No more than a day later, UFC officials announced that the injury wasn't a fracture, merely a bone bruise to his rib and cartilage injury. A contingency plan was put into place, however, and Mendes was put on deck in the case that Aldo couldn't go on with the fight.
McGregor (17-2) has history with Mendes (17-2). The two 145-pound fighters jawed back and forth on a BT Sport interview last year, and the thought of a fight between the two began to draw interest thereafter.
UFC 189 is scheduled to take place on Saturday July 11 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas

Me too! Mendez will be a great fight too though. You can tell he hates Conor and is hungry to kick his ass.

mendes is the test he should have gotten to get a title shot. if mendes wins the UFCs plans will be fubar. if connor wins they can hype the fight even more and make even more $$$

Not a surprise. But injuries do happen. You wouldn't think a fighter of this caliber would be so accident prone.

dude if he was ducking he would not have fought mendes a second time. IMO chad is the best contender in the division. not connor

                  some guys just get hurt.

Agreed, like you said in a previous post this is the fight that should have happened anyway.
Aldo is not ducking or scared but he needs to do something to avoid these injuries.
My take on Conor is that he may very well be the best but he certainly hasn't proved it by beating Siver and Poirer. I am really looking foward to seeing him break into the top 5.

i will say this, he misses or backs out of quite a few fights. i dont like connor either and i hate seeing and hearing all the stupid trash talking. if he is actually getting hurt as many times as he claims he is he needs to rethink his training leading up to his fights. i for one wouldnt want to be vacated from the top spot unless i got beaten by someone better than i am. tough sport but he made it to the top so he should know how to both avoid injuries and work around them as well
