  • I took a fight in 16 days!

Many of you remember my last foray into amateur fighting left me standing there in my trunks with vaseline on my face and my opponent did not show.

well my coach called me yesterday morning with the news he was offered 2 guys who's original opponents backed out. of course i said yes. I am not in the greatest shape and 12 days is not a lot of time to work on cardio. (last few days to rest and recover) It will be a 3 rd boxing match out of state. they are paying for our gas and our hotel room. I will be accompanied by my 2 coaches who will corner me and another young guy who took the other fight which will be Muay Thai. I would love to fight a MT bout but I will take boxing as my hands are decent.

I have to loose 4# which will be easy. just stop drinking beer and eating chicken fried steaks or tacos and beans from the local taqueria.

I think I will have a size advantage weight and height but I am a bit fat for my frame. not fat by regular standards but I can only see my top abs and have a tiny jiggle in my lower belly maybe 11% BF LOL. alot of guys would kill for that right?

Anyway I feel pretty confident.other dude has had a full camp. My coach says I have heart but tend to lower my head and rush my punches with poor technique, also i must move out instead of always going forward to engage. I think I do this to save cardio as it is much easier to offend than to defend and move. I have not really been hurt in sparring even with the big guys since I had my nose broken and have only been knocked out once by a huge HW.

I must stay relaxed and box.

August 17th I will post pics as long as I don't get stood up again.

Nice!!! Good luck man! I'm sure you will do good. How about some video?

My coach is trying to set up a kick boxing tournament sometime next year. I think that will be pretty cool

WOW, sounds very exciting. I'm assuming your coachs are all over you now about cleaning up the diet and get some wind in your lungs. Cardio conditioning is a big part of this is it not? I no nothing really other then muscle requires oxygen. So, you have to have the wind to go the rounds.

Best of luck and keep those hands up

If you could get your hands on an altitude simulation mask and wear it as often as you can until the fight. Then go in and throw good hands and stay clear of his your golden. Good luck man.

Re: I took a fight in 16 days!

i actually stopped drinking beer and started eating clean before i knew about the fight. we have a pool party in a month and want to be the oldest guy there and the only one with a 6pack.

But I have been weight training too and added a little muscle mass which I need to loose. I figure I can drop 2-3 # of fat and 2 # of muscle. this will make me faster and will allow better cardio. just dropped protein to 20 grams 2X a day. the old BB inside screams "more protein" but the fighter knows carbs are what gives fuel.

Re: I took a fight in 16 days!

1 week out. weighed 167# this morning. i need 3 more pounds gone. not water but hopefully fat. i see my abs but still have that damn little bit at the base of my stomach. if i had a full camp i would be at 7% right now or maybe lower. right now probably 10%. i had a good bit of beer fat to start with.

anxiety is getting to me. if this was just a smoker i would be fine but its a real fight with paid seats and 600+ spectators. just trying to stay calm. worry will add to cortisol which will not allow me to loose fat and build muscle and will hurt my cardio.
