Just curious Jipped, are you southpaw or conventional?

Yeah, I'm really thinking about dropping the weights and concentrating more on my Muay Thai and bjj. I would really like to reach an advanced level of Muay Thai.

i am a righty. i tried for 2 years when i started to maintain weight training. but it is just counter productive is what i found. i think it helps doing super high reps for BJJ but not Muay Thai.

i love it. cant wait for saturday.

Congrats on getting in there- I have boxed quite a bit over the years and I know how demanding it is. Just remember, your first fight regardless of your cardio- you will gass! It's the adrenaline that will get you.

Is this a total gym smoker? Or is this an amateur USA Boxing sanctioned match? Head gear or no head gear?

That's what I'm thinking. He is also going to start teaching krav maga. So if I'm taking KM, Muay Thai, and BJJ....I just don't think lifting will be a good idea....even from a time perspective.

My entire goal in the gym is to get lean and stay that way. I figure if I'm eating well, the martial arts will take care of getting lean. Our coach focuses quite a bit on the conditioning side of things. He says that he has been in Muay Thai matches when he was gassed and it was no fun, so he vowed to make his students put in the work to keep that from happening to them.

          Will the fight be video'd?

            smoker, headgear and 16oz gloves.

my guy pulled out, coach told me last night. i was bummed. he said he is getting me a replacement but odes not know who and he may be bigger or smaller. less or more years training. for all i know it could be a 17 year old 200# kid with 6 months or a 140# badass with 6 years. either way i dont feel like i can win

if i beat up a kid.........well i beat up a kid and if he whoops me i can never show my face at my camp again. if i beat a 140# guy, well he was too small. if he beats me then i got whooped by a little fellow.

i almost went to the store and bought a 6 pack of brew and a double bacon burger last night. i can wait 2 more days to see how this pans out.

TZ94z yeah my son is videoing and an alternate but i dont want him fighting. he has braces and the mouth piece is good but i dont want him getting busted up. he hasnt really trained.

Re: first boxing match on Jan 26th

still dont know 100% i will have an opponent. had a good friend who is a BJJ guy offer to come up and be my opponent. what a guy. we have sparred and he is great on the ground and has great kicks but his hands are not so good.

hope i get someone good. someone who will push my and be a good opponent. i would rather have a good fight and loose than have an easy fight with a newb.

oh well i am perfectly calm and cool either way. just ate 6 oz of chicken and brown rice. later i may eat an apple. tomorrow oatmeal with half a banana and an egg white.

2 hours before weigh in (4pm) i will eat a "natural" energy bar. its got seaweed and whole oats and organic honey and all that stuff. i have had them before and they digest easy for me.

other half of the banana an hour before. and if i get to go i will be ready 100% no excuses.

i have done all i can. i trained so hard, bled, sore, puked, prayed for some of the drills/sparring to end, been so exhausted i have to force myself to eat when i get home.

has not been fun, but i look back and all the "suck" was worth it even if i dont fight tomorrow. i proved i CAN make it through a tough camp. i feel like a beast! very confident.

i haven't proved it yet. i want to be called a fighter. right now i train like a fighter, but sparring isn't fighting. i want this bad.

Re: first boxing match on Jan 26th

no fight. i was suited up, hands wrapped, heart racing. and their alternate said nothing when our coach asked if we had anybody to go with me and 2 other guys who had cancelled fights.

we had 1 of our people fight one of theirs then another person in their weight class wanted to go so they went with another.

my coach told me to be patient.

on the bright side our guys got the better of theirs. we had some real mismatches. one of our guys with 1 fight fought a guy 18# bigger who had had 5 fights.

i ate a banana split last night while drinking a guiness extra stout. they actually go good together. i feel sick now. all i want to do it train so when i do get a fight and the guy does not puss out i will wreck him

Should look into a usaboxing match, gem your card and you'll have a better experience. Smokers can be cool, but for the most part it's people have never fought and hence have no real motivation to stick to idea of fighting. What part of the country you in?

north Texas. looking at fighting in Oklahoma in August if we can find a decent opponent with some integrity. I am still bitter not getting to fight. blood sweat and tears were shed over 10 weeks to get ready. still a good experience but i am still just a guy who trains and not a fighter. i just dont want to get some young guy who will beat my ass. i have slowed considerably over the last 10 years and my cardio just wont get to the potential i had when in my 20s

Just last week, I had my first sparring session in 17 years and it was terrible!! My reactions were slow as hell and I took too many stupid shots. Granted it had been a while and I was also tired from going through a boxing class, cardio, muay thai, and another cardio session before sparring....but still. And it wasn't even all out sparring. Good thing I'm not looking to compete...

it will come back but not where it was. i have come to the conclusion older fighters must be smarter and use timing. unfortunately i am not real bright and have bad timing
