  • first boxing match on Jan 26th

been in camp since last of November. lost 7 # since camp started. and i am right on weight (super cruiser weight 164-168) 3 rounds of amateur boxing. crazy as i was over 200# when i was powerlifting/ bb

training every day but sunday. (light sparring on sunday). monday and weds 2X morn and eve. road work morn boxing eve

sparring light now, cant afford a broken nose or rib. I feel good although my cardio is not what it used to be when i was young. My coach looked for an older opponent but couldnt find a guy in his mid 40s so we settled on a 34 year old guy with no fights, 3 inches shorter and same weight.

in the best shape of my life even when i was young. pretty ripped for a guy about to turn 44. no alcohol. no sugar. clean food as much as i want. only supps are protein, creatine, beta alanine and vitamins.

just thought i would share. i will let ya'll know how it goes. I am pretty confident in all but cardio. was sick for about a week over xmas and into january. 1 more week of hard work before we ramp down.

Awesome my man!! 44 and having your first fight. Thats pretty inspirational IMHO! For sure let is know how it goes man! My Muay Thai teacher is thinking of setting up an event at his gym and asked if I would fight in it. I don't think I should thi early on. I mean I've only trained a few months before the knee surgery. I'm only 34 and I was really unsure about even considering it. You may have changed my mind!!

Good luck brother!! Too bad I don't live closer or I would come check it out

good luck to you bro. i've recently started training for the same (boxing not an actual fight). lifting weights and boxing are definitely 2 different animals. i'm just doing it more for fun right now. my trainer is always in my ear about not lifting weights anymore but bbing/pling is my first love and this is more of a hobble vs a lifestyle. hope all goes well in your match!!

Yeah, they will all tell you that. It just depends on what you are in it for. Lifting will hurt your speed but if you aren't looking to compete or become really great, then it doesn't matter. My Muay Thai trainer actually still lifts himself. Or you could tailor your routine to boxing and still workout. Of course PL may not be ideal, as I'm sure you know.

I'm actually in the same situation. I am thinking about dropping lifting and just training my martial arts. Eating correctly and training will get me lean like I want. It's funny how my goals have changed the last couple of years....

he is 5'8" and i am 5'11" but i dont have long arms so reach will be relatively even i assume. but i make my jab long and i pump it like a pistol. i definitely do better from the outside. i throw a good LH but i am inside my comfort when i that range so i normally back out and 1-2. but i plan on using it when its a high prop punch.

stick and move. that's the game plan my coach gave me.

this is the last hard workout then just some light jogging and light sparring, maybe some technique work. thurs and friday nothing but eating clean and rest.

damni hope this guy does not chicken out or get sick or just not show. its a long drive down here but we have gone up there several times.

tn94Z, when i started BJJ i tried to lift at the same time. i gave up. i was slow and way too stiff. i am much slicker now and rolled with a blue belt gold medalist for a 5 minte round. it was a stalemate and i havent done BJJ in months

oh i will. we did some hard physical conditioning today 500 pieces of gutwork and leg work then worked some response drills.

the best was the sparring. i sparred 3 different people and did really well. i was exhausted when he started sparring. i made all 3 rounds breathing heavy but not gassed. i will be fresh on saturday. sparred 7 rounds last sunday so i am not scared. i am looking at it like a game. thats all.
