So, I'm watching Inside MMA and Bas Ruten says that he thinks the ground fighter is more dominant than the striker. He says that a striker can only KO you but a ground fighter can do with you what he wants....he can dislocate joints, break bones, etc....
What are your opinions on this?

Nope dont agree. I think a striker is much more potent. Break a jaw a nose a cheek bone a eye socket, ribs, liver shot

i do both. in thai boxing we play mma from time to to time. i have never been KOd trying to take a camp mate down and once on the ground they are absolutely like a cockerspaniel vs a pit bull, i control them with easeand sub them quickly. now in a pure thai boxing match i would get busted up as i only have a little over a year of straight striking training and i am slow
a good wrestler can take a great striker down and the striker is no longer a threat. and a striker MUST know how to stuff a shot or he is going down easily
thats why i train grappling and thai boxing.
from a purely self defense stance i choose striking as i dont want the guys buddy to stomp my face while i choke the guy who started the fight. but in sport fighting a pure striker vs a pure grappler. the grappler wins most of the time
has everybody forgotten the skinny 175# gracie boy fighting 250# monsters like kimo and gerard gordeau?
gracie had terrible take downs and still beat them
look at high level grapplers that have fair striking ability like daniel cormier and ben askren. both guys are undefeated and started as basically pure grapplers.
1 on 1 in sport fighting, grappler for sure.
on the street a superior grappler takes me down i am gonna poke his eyes out

A little off topic, but do you train to fight or train for knowledge? I can't remember if I have heard you say or not.
I agree with what you said by the way

Heard a special forces hand to hand combat instructor once say, we train only upright, because if it goes to the ground, your dead...of course that is a little different than mma, but
I was actually thinking about this today. In a bar fight situation usually a good striker wins, but MMA style I would say grappler. I have seen good wrestlers get their azz beat in bar fights before on multiple occasions.
