  • Alistair Overeem wants to fight Brock

Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem has admitted that there are currently a lot of opportunities for him in the world of MMA. He has hinted that he might make a jump to the UFC for a big time fight with current UFC Heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar.

    Speaking via FightHype.com, Overeem said:

“I like to be the aggressor in a fight. I like to build up pressure for the opponent. I completely dislike dull fights; go do something else. It’s a fighting sport. That means fighting/ I am negotiating right now with my management. There are a lot of opportunities, but I would love to fight Brock Lesnar to unify the Strikeforce and UFC belt.”

First though, Lesnar will have a tough challenge ahead of him when he returns to the octagon from a serious injury to take on UFC Interim Heavyweight champion, Shane Carwin at UFC 116 on July 3.
I would LOVE to see Overeem in the UFC. They need to just go ahead and get him signed and do whatever they need to to get Fedor signed....then the HW division will be stacked!

He passed his test. Why couldn't he pass in the UFC?

I have been rewatching some of Fedors most recent fights and Im really still up in the air about this guy. Sure, I think he is tough as nails, but I would be very surprised if he came to the UFC and won 2 in a row in the HW division. I know many will disagree but I think his size will just be too much of a disadvantage to overcome against guys like Brock, Carwin, Cain and even someone like Mir. But I would love to be proven wrong.

Yeah, that is one of the things that is so amazing about his career.....the guy should be fighting at 205

Why should Fedor fight in the 205 class? He weighs 233 lbs and has proven he can fight anyone, bigger or smaller. The fact is there are a few freaks in the UFC that weight upwards of 260 lbs but that is not the norm, if it were there would be another weight class such as ultra heavyweight. The heavyweight class is 206-265, so Fedor is right in the middle. I believe his weight gives him a better chance against the larger slower moving guys, and that is where he wil take advantage. Fedor is very good on the ground and is dangerous when it comes to submissions. But anyway, if heavyweights continue to weigh in at 265 lbs, then there will have to be another weight class, perhaps 206-225. Then, fighters like Fedor and Corture could come in weighing 225, but until that day you are going to have the majority of heavyweights averaging between 225-245 lbs. Brock and Carwin are not your average heavyweights.

I am just saying that in today's MMA, most guys that are at his weight cut and fight at 205. I don't mean that he can't handle his own. See what I am saying? I am a Fedor fan just for what he has done. No disrespect was meant. I like him in HW, but like I said, most guys at his weight cut and fight lower....that is just the way the game is now

I really don't think they need a super heavyweight because there wouldn't be enough guys to fight in it. If you split it up to 225 and up, then your guys that weight 225-245 or 250 will just cut and drop down because of the size difference. That will leave you with too few fighters at super HW and people will be fighting each other for a while. Like he stated above, the Lesnar's and Carwins in not the norm, which would leave a super HW division lacking IMO. I like it the way it easy. It will make the lighter guys tighten up their technique and the bigger guys will be beaten. No one wins every fight.

It was an in house test by Strikeforce. I'm sure it wouldn't be too tough to pass that.

So now Srtikeforce is corrupt? You know that the Commission administers tests too right? So, if he was really on, and Strikeforce knew about it, and the commission tested him and he failed....that would probably be the last straw for Strikeforce. Do you really think that Coker would risk all that just to allow a fighter to pass a drug test?

I havent noticed anyone on steroids in the ufc. The UFC is a name brand now and I wouldnt think thwy would jeapordize there name on faking tests just like boxing is very strict or cycling. Can things be cheated in the ufc well thats all up to dana and it could happen. But like I said I havent seen anyone in the top 5 of each weight class on anything
