You can't blame GSP for doing what he did and that is not what we are doing. But he fights not to lose, he doesn't fight to win. In his earlier days, he would have stood with Hardy but I think Serra has him gun shy now against anyone that has some standup.
Shiz, it was a very good performance and he followed his game plan perfectly I am sure...but he isn't as exciting as he used to be plain and simple. It was very lopsided, but that is only because it was kept on the ground. If the Palharres/Drwal fight would have stayed standing, it would have been just as lopsided because Palharres has no standup at all.
Anyway, GSP did an awesome job doing what he did, but it's not what he used to be...and he is supposed to be getting better??
Mr.Ontario...all of the legacy talk is coming from GSP himself, not us fans. The only reason it is brought up is because he talks about it in every interview that he has.
Just because he didnt stand a bang with him doesnt mean he's scared or fighting "not to lose".. he fought a good smart fight.. I dont ever hear anyone say that someone was "scared to wrestle or grapple" with someone if they end up standing the whole fight and using take down defense.. there is no difference.. this is M M A.. not boxing, not kickboxing, not street fighting.. you need to be proficient in ALL aspects of your game because thats what MMA is.. You cannot say that GSP would or woudnt have won a "boxing or kickboxing" match with Hardy because its not boxing or kickboxing.... Personally, I think GSP is a MUCH better boxer then you guys give him credit for.. go back and watch ALL of his fights.. I personally think that he would beat Hardy in a kickboxing match.. lets face it, Hardy was just out of his league and did not deserve a title shot.. he should have fought KOS first who would have beat him and ended the nonsense.. I'm guessing GSP's next fight will probably be a rematch with KOS when/if he beats Daley... KOS is the only one to give GSP any competition in the past couple years.. I would like to see one of these 185ers try and cut down to 170 and fight him..
Okay, Kos is not a top level fighter. Plain and simple. He has been around for a while now and not really shown any signs of getting a title. GSP and Hardy both would beat Kos. I said that GSP has good standup, not great. That is what I have said. Anyone that can't wrestle is going to be out of their league with GSP. Once someone comes along that can stall his TDs, GSP will be beat. Don't get me wrong here, I am a GSP fan and I have been for a while, but I think he fights "safer" than he used to.
I thought Dana white keeps bringing the legacy thing up? or from what I had seen anyways....
They both do. GSP brings it up in almost every interview he has. It's legacy this and legacy that....He also keeps bringing up the "best P4P" too but he will never be considered for that without wins like he got last night IMO. I think that if you are to be considered for best P4P, it won't come just from your record.....it comes from that way in which you won the fights too. GSP is really doing nothing more than what Hughes did while on his win streak and he has never been mentioned for P4P.

They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.

Who do you think GSP should fight next to shut him up? Fuzo?
GSP fights to win and WHO doesn't? All the fighters do what they do best, whether it stand up or take down. GSP does what he has to do to keep/defend the belt and ultimately get the bigger pay cheque in the end. Plain and simple. What's there not to get?
I'm sure he doesn't give to shits about his legacy right now...why because I'm almost positive he will be in the game for while YET. Although were talking about his legacy right now??
If you find his fights bring maybe don't watch him next time
ditto Mr. O
i actually liked the fight, it was 5 rounds of grinding, not every fight is the same all the time
hardy is obviously strong as ****, he said he would go five rounds, and on the ground imho he handled himself better than most of gsp's opponents, he was challenging him on the ground and he never ever gassed out, that's phenomenal imho, he looked fresh at the end
i was kind of disappointed he was taken down so easy every time, they should have had that as the no. 1 priority in his training,
mir needs his head examined, lol, i like the guy, cause he's big ne doesn't fear being up against the cage, but the brock and this fight, he got hammered 4-5 times, that didn't phas him at first and then one shot did, and he becomes stupid vulnerable, he should not have let that happen again, with a guy who has big powerful hands

All I know is that..I would not change my style of fighting to make things more entertaining.
You do what you have to in order to win.
Why risk your career just because people want to see more entertaining fights? or see people get knocked out. Why would you want to get knocked out to begin with lol I certainly wouldn't. My life and my livelyhood come first. Hes got bills to pay after he is done with the sport. I say take the wins regardless of whether they look entertaining or not.

Joe Rogan has no experience in MMA?

Joe Rogan has a ton of knowledge in this area. The guy was one of the top fighters in California and he got on drugs. He is great on the ground and is one tough guy. I would not mess with him at all.
It probably was! GSP is that good of a wrestler.. He will probably make the Canadian olympic team
That's what I was going to say. It's not that the other fighters don't train for take down defense, the problem is that GSP has the best takedown shot in MMA. There is almost no way to stop it because it's so fast.
All I know is that..I would not change my style of fighting to make things more entertaining.

I agree 100% with you on this. But just don't expect to get the P4P best fighter award fighting like that. That's all I'm saying. GSP shouldn't change a thing.

This basically says what I am saying. This is from Fightmetric
Less impressive was the total number of heavy strikes landed by GSP. After landing a career-high 106 HiPer Strikes against Jon Fitch, St. Pierre's striking tally has declined in each of his last three fights:
49 vs. Penn (in four rounds)
41 vs. Alves
35 vs. Hardy
If Luke Thomas took the glass is half-empty view and Brent Brookhouse the half-full view, I guess that leaves the glass has water in it view to me. St-Pierre couldn't put away an outmatched opponent, but is that really that surprising? Georges has never shown preternatural one strike power, eliminating any kind of notion that he could put Hardy away toe-to-toe. And while he has impressive submission victories in the past, he's no Demian Maia or B.J. Penn either.
Brent made the analogy that B.J. Penn is to Manny Pacquiao as Georges St-Pierre is to Floyd Mayweather. It's not exactly the most eloquent comparison, but I agree with it in at least one aspect: a dominating win is a dominating win whether it ends in a finish or not. Mayweather gets flack for his defensive style of boxing, but the fact is that he makes other professional athletes look like children in the ring with him. The same holds true for St-Pierre.

bull shit even gsp said in a interview after the fight he wasnt going to stand with hardy because that was hardys strong point and that was a direct quote from gsp on ufc.com
for the part they did stand hardy couldnt hit him, not 1 time. gsp landed a few good punches. GSP hit him and made hardy make a stupid punk, stick my tongue out face. he kicked him in the chest a couple times too.
