I disagree...BJ was in position multiple times to get a sub. He tried a few times to get his high guard and would slide right down GSPs back(non mma fans at my house even noticed this). As a matter of fact BJ was close to getting a gogoplata locked in early on....so to say that it didn't make a difference in sub attempts is inaccurate.

Did it make a difference in the fight? We will never know

So you haven't seen any of the footage or other accounts of him cheating but you've already formulated an opinion that he didn't cheat. Good to see you're impartial.
Dont even get me started about trip in the politic section about being impartial, lol

i saw it and didnt think it looked any dif from a regular fight. throw your legs up for a high guard even with a gi and they will slide down with any movement in fact that is what is taught is to "shake" back the guard. the "incident" happened at the end of the second round. BJ never got super close to a gogo or oma plata. GSP lowered his head and the attempt is over. also how many times do you hear "he is all sweaty it will be very hard to pull off a sub now"

IMO BJ just didnt come in the fight on top of his game. his boxing looked terrible and that is where he had a huge advantage last fight until he gassed out.

either way (none of us are pro fighters and our opinions are that of "armchair quaterbacks" LOL) it was a crappy fight and i hope the next one will be what we all expected

its always good to debate you bro you are very knowledgable about MMA

I don't know about the oma plata but the gogo was close. I mean BJs ankle was on GSPs chin...what is that like 2-3 inches from being locked in under the neck, it was close for a gogo which is pretty rare. I agree that the high guard is hard to hold but that is BJs A-game. He holds the high guard much better than most fighters. His flexibility keeps fighters from just shaking off his high guard. And for it to slip down that easily that early in the fight is very unusual. I know that many times GSP postured up to get the guard down but many times he didn't as well.

Any way, I think we have said just about all that can be said on this. Now we just have to wait and see if they get the rematch. From what I have read, GSP is fighting Alves at UFC 100 in July so it will at least be after that.

I love debating about MMA. It makes it much better to watch IMO. When you know you are going to debate about a fight, it makes you really pay attention and crtitique fights. And I have to say, that I have learned alot from debating.

if he got the foot down for a gogo and GSP kept his chin down there is no choke. that is why the gogo is so rare it is reletively easy to defend and if the leg is under the head already, a rotation of the hips will allow the omaplata which is a shoulder lock. it is also easy to defend against by rolling forward but they must give up top position and will end up with a guy taking side control on them.

i have only seen the gogo pulled off by nick diaz(beat gomi), shinya aoki (dream, a badass submission fighter) and brad imes (sp? king of the cage, ex TUF member)

brother, you are very knowledgable, if at all possible try a few BJJ classes. you will get addicted! trust me, a guy on **** encouraged me to get in with a local guy marcus hicks (wec)back in 07. trained there for a couple months then went with a carlos machado black belt closer to my house. been there ever since. i thank that guy (ripsid) all the time. it has changed my life. dont say you are too busy or too old or too inflexible. i thought that, not anymore.

I trained for 6 months...then I went through a bad divorce which left me with many unexpected bills. I had to cut monthly debt and that had to be one of the cuts. I want to get back into it soooo bad, but right now I just can't seem to get it done. I will get back into it. When I was in the class all of the stuff came so easy. I got REALLY good at defense because I used to roll with the teacher every night. He hardly ever caught me in an arm bar after a few weeks and rarely a triangle....that is just because I got SOOOO much in the first few weeks it was ridiculous!!! I am definitely getting back into it....I don't care if I am 45 when I get my I get my black belt.

You are very knowledgeable as well! It is great talking with guys that actually know what they are watching!! Unlike many of the drunk BOO'n idiots in the crowds at the PPV....but don't get me started on that!!!

The reason most of them boo is because they don't have a clue what is going on once it hits the ground. They are juts a bunch of "toughman contest" fans that bought tickets.

                      Re: BJ accepts GSPs challenge!!!

I watched the fight twice. I watched it the second time after the greasing allegation and there was a guy in a red jacket at GSP's corner from the second round and up taking a towel and wiping GSP down. Bottom line is, GSP may have gotten away with some greasing during the first round but none after that.

Anyways, right about now I'm sure everyone and their grandma are googling for foods that make your skin oily and greasy. I bet fighters are now going to come in rocking greasy jheri curls now.

well, they didn't start wiping him until after the 2nd. The second round is the round in question....but it is in the NSACs hands now
