I don't want to hear "love of the game" bull**** (no offense against you Solid bro). Love of the game means, you'll take league minimum when you are a multi million dollar player. Love and emotion is what Pat Tillman did. He walked away from a $3,000,000 contract to join his family in the military. No player in the NFL, NBA, MLB, or any other sport can say HONESTLY that they are playing for soley the love of the game. If they were, they would say, "I don't need $20 million a year, just give me league minimum. I'm just happy to play the game". I don't begrudge them at all. I would do the same thing. I always use this example:
Lets say the average person makes $80,000 a year over their lifetime. That's an average. Now, that dude will work approximately, 40 years. So that means,
$80,000 a year
X 40 years
$3,200,000 over that average persons life is what they will make.

NOW, look at the life of a start athlete. Actually, look at the life of a medicre athlete. MLB players are making rediculous salaries. So lets say:
Average player make $2,000,000 a year
$2,000,000 (on the SUPER low end)
X 12 seasons
$24,000,000 over their lifetime. Not to mention, appearences, merchandise, Women, etc....
Now, who has room to B I T C H?

Speak for yourself bro! I love the game and I would NOT be a cry baby ***** about it. If my day was over, then it's over. So, don't go around telling people they would do the "SAME exact thing" when you don't even know any of us well enough to say something like that. You don't know what we would do!

He's not being a cry bab in reality though. hes saying hes not going to go to work unless he has job security. If you wuold do that, then you're not a smart biz man. Also, he most likely has a lot of agent influence, which you also would have.

then you have to look at the fact the avg life span isnt long at all.. NFL = not for long. its not like they will be making 5 mil a year forever, its more like 5 yers if they are lucky. So by the time they are 30, they arent making the big bucks anymore... Then you will see a lot of contracts back loaded and the players are cut before they even see the money... football players dont have it as good as ppl make it out to be.

i agree i think the players deserve alot of money..theyre making billions for the owners..on the other hand it takes a bit away from some of the players desire and love for the game.

Actually, the owners don't make near as much as you might think. Most of their money comes from Home games (ticket sales, concessions, etc.), well, they only play 8 home games a year and yet the owner has to pay the players for ALL 16 games. The only owners making money are the ones with full stadiums. Those with bad teams that have empty seats, are also not selling as much in merchandise and concessions. And, they have all the advertising too. There is a hell of a lot of expense in owning a football team.

Not a slam at all, but have you played the newer Madden Football games? There is a Franchise Mode where you act as the owner and have to set prices on everything from players to coaches to concessions to parking, advertising, everything. It took me 6 games to get in the red with my team. Now, I know it's not 1005 accurate, but it's based on the players real life salaries and based on the leagues real life prices for things. It's not only a football game but a strategy game to make money at the same time. It gives you a real good taste of just how hard it is. And, if you go over the salary cap, good night you get hit hard by the league. Anyways, IMO, unless the team has a hardcore fan base or a good team, the owner could very well be struggling some years.

in those 4 years in the nfl he probably got maybe 1.5 mil or 2 million maybe? you cant survive off of that for the rest of your life. Hes just trying to make the most m oney he can ou tof his profession just like any one else would do. and i would hope to see more than 2 mil over a life time or else i would be living in a shack
