I think you have that backwards. The R1 will walk away from the CBR. THe R1 comes with 180 rear wheel hp on a 375lb bike. Honda has always been behind as far as performance compared to other bikes. THey have the most comfortable bikes, ill give them that but they lack in performance. I think thats why they are trying to catch up with there 600RR and 1oooRR.

That is BS 180 rear wheel Horsepower that rating is at the motor by the time it goes through all the drive train is about 150 something still nothing to be ashamed of.......And the thing with Honda is they don't care what everybody else is doing they try to beat the bike they produced last year your crazy to say they have been behind the times what about KAWASAKI had the zx9r from 1998 up until 2003 with just minor changes

Honda has been behind the rest of the group as far as performance. The new bikes they brought out now are probably much better than they used to be. Yamaha and Suzuki has just walked all over the bikes for the past 4 years now. This year Kawasaki has teh new 636rr and honda came with the new 600rr to compete with the r6 and the gixxer 6. Im sorry but honda has good reliability but has lacked in performance. Look at the honda F4. It was comfortable but a pig compared to the other 600s out. Honda did good be redesigning there bikes for this year. I like honda. I have a CR125 but as far as street bikes go, i have a 2001 R6. Just far out ahead of the pack till now. I think most of the 600s are pretty evenly matched this year.

I have a cbr954 IMO in the 600 class and the liter bike class they are so competitive its all about the rider and by the way the new 600rr is still slower through the 1/4 than the f4I and heavier

bro I got an 03 R1 with a micron pipe and front and back turn siganl kits and my bike pulls mad ass, the 04 has 184 hp from the motor which is 5 more than mine. But if its your first bike why buy it New. get an older bike for a season, then go New. I started with a 1977 kawasaki 650 kz, then a 93 ninja 600, then an 03 R1, evolution as a rider, Im sure you can ride but shit does happen when your riding everyday.
