  • Which 2004 bike?

I have been thinking about buying a bike finally after riding them forever, but never actually owning my own. Final decision will come when I can sit on them and see which I like the best, but at the moment I can't decide which I like more. BTW....I'm not concerned with the top speed and so on. I enjoy bikes, but don't have a pre determined death wish on a bike.

    Which do you like?
    2004 Honda CBR1000RR

    or

    2004 Yamaha YZF-R1

I think I like the R1 better, but then again the Honda isn't bad and comes with some trick parts. Not to mention a close friend of mine is a Honda mechanic, so that may bring benefits.

Don't know the MSRP, but I'm sure it will be around $10-11k. Says they come out in Feb. and the good thing for me is I think I may have my debt cleared by then just in time to get more debt with a bike.

Both are very nice bikes, but if you haven't checked with your insurance company yet you may be a bit suprised to see how your monthly bill will look.

I checked for myself, and it would be more than my Corvette to insure.

I was thinking about the GXR1000, but don't like it as much, plus I don't think it will be the best 1000 in 04. Yamaha and Honda came out with some good bikes and it looks like the Suzuki remained unchanged.

In hopes of saving money on the insurance I am going to try to buy the thing in cash or close to all of it. That way full coverage wont have to be paid for as long.

The CBR will walk away from that R1. Not to mention the quality difference between the two. You'll pay a little more for Honda, but it's well worth it.

BTW. I know you said you've ridden bikes for a while but never owned one. My best advice is start with something smaller. It will take you forever to find the capabilities of that bike. I grew up on dirt bikes, and been riding my friends spare Harley. I'm more into sportbikes, so I just baught my first one. CBR 600RR. I'm very experienced, and it will be a while before I'm even close to really riding it. The worst thing is I smoke guys on liter bikes because they can't maneuver them like I can my 6. My bike is like riding a razor blade, and fast as hell. Put some thought into it.
