It's not her fault. She doesn't mean to.
About 4 years ago my parents decided to get divorced. I was 1/2 way through college, and about to move to Vancouver for a year to get my "Technical Experience".
When I got back, the divorce was pretty much finalized. My mom was left with 1/2 of a $250,000 house (125,000 morgage), her truck, and a $12/hr job.
Things were hard on all of us. My parents had paid my college tuition and bought my textbooks in the past and I paid all the rest of my expenses myself. Mom could no longer afford 1/2 of that, and I couldn't ask Dad to pay 1/2 and not mom. So I ended up getting a job at McDonalds to pay my way through school.
SO...4 years later... I'm done college and have a good paying job. I easily make more than double her income. BUT.. mom is still in the same boat.... struggleing to get by.
Mom loves 2 things in her life.. her children and her horses. She's talking about giving the horses up.. they're expensive. I CANNOT let that happen. But I don't know what to do. She won't let me help out financially. She knows I'm saving money to buy a house of my own and won't let me give her anything.
The only way I've been able to help is with doing labour etc. Last summer I took the truck into the bush every other weekend and brought her back about 5 full loads of firewood so she could save money in heating costs over the winter. I also helped her plant a large garden so that she could save some money in groceries and I believe she even made a few hundred dollars selling vegetables. Unfortunately, this isn't enough.
Any ideas guys? She'll know it's me if she suddenly finds a bunch of money laying around or something like that. She's the type of lady who'd try to find it's proper owner anyway, no matter how badly she needs it. Last Christmas I bought her a computer. Nothing special, just a $1000 starter system. The stubborn women RETURNED IT ON ME! Got my CC bill the next month with a $1000 credit on it. S'OK.. I straightened things out and made it so she couldn't return it again.
This shit is tearing me up guys. She loves those horses.. doesn't stop talking about horses... has horse stuff all over her house...
