Earlier this year I gave up the expensive Gillette fusion cartridges and tried a double edge safety razor with shave soap and brush. Now I am addicted and shaving has become a joy for the first time in my life. I'm curious if anyone else on here shaves with a DE or straight razor and brush. If not, you may want to try it out. I have never had such close shaves in my life. The blades I use are $10 to $15 for 100, so much cheaper way of shaving unless it becomes a hobby where you continue to seek out the best brush, razor head and handle, and artisan soaps like me...lol.

I like it, though you need to get wet shaving cream and not use the heavy shaving cream used by modern multiblade razors.
I use the Astra Platinum blades. It was hard to find the right blade to use, too sharp and it cuts the skin easily...but too dull and it will not cut the beard efficiently. After trying about a half dozen types of blades, the Astra won out. The Personna Platinum Red (red box vs white box) was a close second.
I get a MUCH better shave for MUCH less money this way. Takes some practice to learn how to use them, but I like it better.Comment
