Ice-out pike fishing in Maine

About a month ago me and my brother went up to the belgrade lakes in maine to fish for pike just as the ice was going out. Always wanted to catch it like this. It was so cold but worth it. You have to be careful because if the wind shifts you might find that where you launched the boat is now ice bound!

You can see the ice line in this pic. There were ice chunks everywhere, if you fell in you would not last long!

Thanks bro, smallmouth spawn is starting right now! They are ultra aggressive! When you hook them they come flying straight up out of the water. I am going to maine this weekend to catch the spawn. I will take a bunch of pics.

They just finished spawning here had a lot of fun catching them off the beds they don't get as big down here a 4-5 lb is a trophy fish in nc but they are a blast to catch esp out of the river

Similar here 4 to 5lbs is pretty big. I know, lb for lb nothing crushes a bait and fights harder than a river smallie. They must be ultra conditioned from living in the current

True river small mouth exploid on a bait we have white bass also and those boys pound it out also

never caught a pike or a smallie. they looked like fun. i hear small mouths are pound for pound one of the great freshwater fights.
