  • Where do you keep your gun?

specifically in relation to where you keep the gun you intend to grab in the event that you're asleep and someone breaks into your house? i've got a 9 in my bedroom, on the top closet shelf, in a pelican case. i haven't timed myself just yet on how quickly i can get to it and put a loaded clip in it, in the event that someone has broken into my house but i'd imagine it's too long, and noisy enough to give away my position.

i keep the gun there to keep it away from my 2y/o daughter, but in terms of practicality and responsiveness i don't feel that this is the most advantageous place for it. so I'm wondering, where do you keep your emergency home invasion piece?

Luckily for me I live with just my girlfriend. No other family, no kids and I never have anyone over. Almost all of my guns are locked up in a gun safe but my daily carry is a glock 26. The gun is within arms reach of me at all times no matter where i am. When I sleep its on my night stand no case one in the champer ready to rock.

When im driving its in my center consol or on my hip. If i leave home without it on accident i will turn around everytime and go get it. Its not that im paranoid i just refuse to be the guy whos a victim. The world is a crazy place and my state seems to be filled with a different class of criminal.
I never meant to be better than anyone, I was just born that way. Its hard being a god amongst peasants!

man i wish i enjoyed that level of freedom with keeping my strap on me all the time. i'm a pretty paranoid guy, pretty much all the time.

kind of unrelated here but a couple years ago a gang war damn near broke out in my front yard. once i realized what was going on i ran outside w/ a loaded 12ga ready to rock and luckily for all involved those in the dispute had left. i walked my entire front and side yard w/ my shotty in hand then hung out in the doorway for a minute listening for those motherfuckers. nobody ever came back, but guess who ended up talking to the cops later that night? i guess a neighbor saw me outside w/ my shotty and called the cops. luckily the deputy was pretty cool, gave me some tactical advice and took off lol. i remember feeling like it was bull shit i was the one who ended up talking to the cops. you'd think my neighbors would be comforted by the fact that i'm ready to do whatever to defend my territory and in effect theirs too. funny story looking back on it but holy shit was my adrenaline pumping that night.

You may all think I'm crazy but I have two kids and I keep both my guns, my 40 and my M4 right next to my nightstand. First off I keep them configured so my kids couldn't load them or they would at least have a very very difficult time physically doing it. Second I don't care what anyone says educating your kids and taking away the curiosity factor helps. I've been handling guns professionally for over 18 years and I'm not naďve enough to think that accidents cant happen or bad stuff but I also think what's the point of having a gun for protection if it's locked away. I have never had a problem with my kids wanting to touch my guns or even go in my room when I'm not looking.

That's awesome Gusto. When my daughter gets older i completely intend to teach her all about firearms. it's cool to hear that you have real world experience with what education does when you have kids around. my 9 is a desert eagle and not easy for my wife to handle, her hands are too small to use it comfortably with one hand. there is no way my daughter could use it, but i know accidents can happen. at the same time, i know it's unrealistic to think that i can get to my closet, open my gun case, put the loaded clip in the gun, and be ready to fire silently and in a matter of seconds. i need to make it more readily available, but safely. decisions decisions...

btw, i know my course of action in my last post wasn't a great idea. i was a new home owner a the time and just operating on instinct wanting to protect what's mine. I've had a fair amount of weapons training thx to previous employment, but still, running out w/ a gun into a crowd of possibly armed and angry ppl wasn't the best idea.

Re: Where do you keep your gun?

My kids have been around guns their whole live and seen the damage they do. Every bedroom in my house has at least 1 shot gun hanging over the bedroom door our guns are always loaded. The boys also have guns next to their bed of their choosing. Cars have at least a shot gun in back seat and I wear cowboy boots for a reason but sometimes I wear a baggy shirt.
