  • surf fishermen and women please come on in.

I am going to the coast next week for a quick fishing trip with a buddy. i have been surf fishing many times and catch specks, whiting, cats, ladyfish and some other stuff. but i have never caught a big bull red or a shark. (couple weeks late on the reds but they will still be there)

during the day we will go after specks for the table and probably have a big rod out for bulls. is cracked crab the best bait?

give me all of your surf fishing tips! I want to catch a shark real bad, a big back drum, a 12# jack crevelle would be a great fight.

I go surf fishing 4 or 5 times a year in Tybee Island, GA or Hilton Head, SC. I'm not a very knowledgeable surf fisherman and can't offer up any secrets but, I have caught several hammerhead sharks off the beach in Hilton Head. They usually measure between 2 and 4 feet in length.
It's pretty cool reeling in a shark off the beach

I caught a small shark with a crab. I was a kid so don't remember all the details.

i was born in GA and have family in SC. I fished off Mt Pleasant dozens of times as a kid. we caught sand fleas and used them for bait. never caught any good fish.

I heard the Texas Coast live mullet or cut mullet are great baits. also slabs of stingrays is good tough bait. called a buddy who fishes the coast a lot. he says in the 3rd gut in 6-7' of water good shot at a big bull or a blacktip.

I cant wait. have 2 big rods a 12' with a big ass spinning reel and 40# line and a 9' with a smaller reel filled with 25# line. also my bass tackle with 12-15#line

and i am not good with it but have a 10' cast net i have used to catch mullet and piggy perch. one time i caught 10 or so specks all were keepers but not legal to harvest that way so i threw them back

Florida here. Not gonna catch the bull reds surf fishing here but bonet heads and nurse sharks are popular when I'm out surfing I usually see a few sharks caught on the beach.

I love to fish...I'm jealous brother...keep is updated! But live bait is the way to be...either catch some bait fish or buy some from the fish market if they r avail...hell, so kids will probably have fish for sale from the day lol

i have never had any luck with a sabiki. i have several and have run them through a school of finger mullet dozens of times without a bite. maybe the water was too colored or they just were not biting. tried on 3-4 trips. i will stick with my cast net. i always catch stuff with it.
