Re: Lightning strike at firends house

lightning scares the crap out of me. we were bass fishing one time and I cast. my crankbait hit the water and i had a little backlash so i was pulling line off the spool. my buddy said "WTF!" my line was kind of floating in the air instead of laying on the water (it was spectra braid maybe it is conductive?)

i dropped my fishing rod in the boat and we heard a CRASH! lightning struck a tree on the bank not 20 yards from where we were.

we ran back, trailered the boat and drank beer the rest of the day.
"SHIAT BIOTCH, thats a big ass!"

Not conductive but the static/ negative charge in the air effected the line like static effects your hair. Cool story. I love braid for bass fishing BTW.

That's cool man! What did the tree look like afterwards? That was intense though! And loud as hell!

it was a cottonwood tree, it blew the bark off one side of the trunk and several limbs were knocked off but amazingly it did not seem charred and the top branches seemed untouched. It was loud as hell. I have heard about guys with graphite bass rods getting hit by lightning and it was scary. right before it hit the hair on my warms stood up too. i don't know if it was static like WT said or my body reacting to the strange line floating line thing

Damn, that's cool and scary as hell. I hate walking outside when it's storming.
