Re: Any fence builders in here??

Great thead! I really appreciate this. This really helps. I was going to hire someone to do my fence and he wanted thousands to do it. I decided to go to Home Depot and the guy showed me how to do it, and I just finished my first 8 foot section. You save so much by doing it yourself.
I bought an impact driver and used screws. Its very fast. I also put a tiny bit of space between pickets because we get some harsh wind around here and they told me the space will let the wind blow through, I dunno. Maybe I should have just stuck them together.
I also noticed that home depot has 8 foot sections already with the 2x4s and pickets for $54, but I am going to try and do it all myself.. I have tons more fence to put up.
Great diagrams 02. Mucho Gracias brutha!!! So you say mix the concrete first and then pour in hole? I was going to pour QuickCrete into the hole and add water and let it set. Should I mix the quickcrete in a wheelbarrow first instead?

DZONE IF YOU CHECK...THE PRE-FAB SECTIONS ARE MADE OF A LOT THINNER WOOD AND ARE PUT TOGETHER WITH STAPLES

YES MIX IS FIRST IN A WHEELBARROW, THEN POUR IN THE HOLE

ITS FUNNY YOU MENTION QUIKRETE....MY UNCLE RETIRED FROM QUIKRETE AS VICE PRESIDENT OUT OF THE ATLANTA OFFICE. THE ONLY ONE ABOVE HIM WAS THE OWNER. PRETTY SMALL WORLD HUH?

          Thanks so much brother!
          Wow, ya small world.
02 youre a great resource for information. Sure do appreciate the help. Thanks for the headsup on the prefab sections, I will stay away from them and use the screws. I bought a Makita impact driver with a lithium battery at Home depot. They had a sale going on. It only takes 15 minutes to charge and goes a long time. Now I am psyched to finish this job. !!!

USING SCREWS WOULD BE FINE TOO...JUST HAVE A FEW CHARGED BATTERIES IF YOU ARE USING CORDLESS DRILLS. IT WILL KILL THE BATTERIES PRETTY QUICK.

GOOD LUCK MAN! GLAD TO HELP!

I'm assuming you are talking about the dog eared boards. How do you decide on the horizontals going up the slope?

Appreciate you posting this thread tn. Very informative. I was really surprised how much I could save by learning how to do it myself. Plus, its great physical labor. My first eight feet of fence aint pretty, but its a fence and it looks great from a distanceLOL
Good luck on that slope bro. I would be interested to know how it goes for you.

Yeah, I have read a lot about fencing in the past 2 weeks and everything I have read says that quality of the pre fab pieces is crap.

No problem. I just like doing stuff myself because I LOVE to learn new stuff and there is usually someone on the boards with knowledge in the area. O2 is the freaking man!! Drawings and everything....you can't ask for any more than that!

Yeah, I tend to get a bit OCD on stuff like this. I want everything to be perfect...haha!!

Thanks again man. I'll update with my progress and if it turns out okay, maybe a pic or two. Now I want to measure and figure up a materials list and see about what it's going to cost me.

This is great. I would like to put up one of those white picket fences around the front of my house, I think its made of PVC or some kinda plastic. Are those just as easy to put up? Thanks

I don't know from experience but just from reading. What I have read is that they are pretty easy to install but you obviously have to be more precise on your measurements. If the yard is flat, then it shouldn't be an issue. But if you have slope, then you may run into problems.

Also, for what it's worth, a co-worker says his neighbor has the white fence. He says that every time it comes a good storm, the guy is out there having to put a section or two back up. Now take this for what it's worth because I have not had any experience with it either.

But man they sure look good!
