I have a rio600 - I REALLY want an iPod. Those things are sweet!
The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.

I had the RCA RD1080, went through 3 of them in 5 months. Returned it the third time and got a Sony MD player which I like better.

I have the RCA Lyra RD1070 and love it. Cost me about $100. I think it's good for a beginner.

I've got the sony on that's about the size of a cigarette lighter ... it takes the same memory sticks as my camera, so it's easy to load them back and forth ... and i've got a 256 mb card for it ...

I have a Creative Labs Nomad IIc. Got a great price on ebay for it. I really only use it for when I work out so I can't see myself spending more then 80 bucks on one.
