i would just let it go.tell her you're sorry but she just hit you at the wrong moment.i was on/off with this woman for 2-3yrs.her house was about to be forclosed on and she needed 10g in less than a week.i took my prized possesion,my 76 Harley Davidson shovelhead Superglide,which i built from the frame up)cept the engine) and sold it to the guy who does the chrome for OC Choppers cause he built my engine.dude gave me 12k cash altho it was worth at least 15k and promised before he sold it he'd call me and all i had to do was give back the same money.this broad was telling me for almost 2months she was getting all the money from her divorce settlement.needless to say he called and said he had too many offers on the bike and had to sell it.money ruins everything between friends.
and to top it off she destroyed the jeep i co-signed for her and paid the insurance on cause i told her i couldn't afford the payments.some people get so used to us saying yes that when they hear "no" it's all out war with them...

i would not give any cash at all. If you still feel guilty and want to help her in soem aspect, offer to go and get her car out the impound for her. If it's too much money to get it out, offer to pay a portion of it but you'll need to go down in person and get it out with her.
