Age to give son a phone?

I have a 10 year old and for about 2 months he's been egging me to get him a phone. I made a deal with him. If he could behave himself for 3 months, i would get him one. Well, typically boy, that lasted 2 days.

So I'm at Verizon getting a new phone and my smart ass son starts really talking common sence on why he needs a phone. He really sounded convining. So...i ended up getting him one.

I HAD TO GO AHEAD AND PUT TEXTING ON MY DAUGHTERS PHONE...SHE BIT ME IN THE AZZ ON THE FIRST BILL!! $10 FOR UNLIMITED IS BETTER THAN 50 CENTS FOR EACH ONE BY ITSELF!!

They got along with phones before, and they can now too. Texting is not necessary for these kids.

My son is 13 and has a blackberry for a year now. He has had a phone since he was 11. All his buddies at school have phones and it is actually kinda weird how many kids have phones

My daughter got a phone when she was 10. That was right about the time I was having my hip surgery, and I felt it was important for her to have it. (for I had a lot of different people having to drive her to and from school and other places.)

We told her NOT to take that phone to school, and within the first week, she took the phone to school. Guess what, it was stolen that day! She did end up getting it back the next week, but that definitely taught her a hard lesson. She was a wreck that whole week her phone was gone, and we said she wouldn't get another one until she was 18!

Anyways, since then, she has been extremely responsible, and it's come in handy more than a few times. We have unlimited texting on all of our phones, so she is allowed to text. But, I monitor her phone daily, and she knows anything done inappropriately, the phone will be taken away.

She's a great girl tho, and we have had no problems what so ever since that first week.

i wont do it....not at 12. my oldest is 21. he got one at 16. my daughter is 15. i got her a cell at 14. thats it!! 14 is the number too me. my 12yr old has been bugging me for 2yrs...i just tell him, "keep it up and i promice you'll buy your first phone when your 18!!" this usually shuts him up becouse i mean that sht!! i dont care if you gotta send smoke signals yo your boys and shyt....i aint doing it. i hear all these other parents "dericks on his 3rd phone....they just keep breaking on him"...tell dericks little fatass to quit leaving it in his back pocket when he flops onto the fukin chair!!! that shyt aint "breaking on him", the little fukers a clutz!!! he keeps dropping the shyt!! yea....fuk that...14....thats it

we gave my son a phone at 11 when he started walking home from school. he wants a smart phone but that would be spoiling the boy LOL

10 is to young wait until he's 18 and just make the phone have incoming calls from you anf no out going calls unless there to you. And no texting

this is what i did to jess for her first yr too...not only did i wait until 14 (any younger should be against the law!! teach them kids to write letters!!! support the post office before we loose that shyt), but i restricted it to calls only on her phone book, then i locked that shyt so only i could add numbers to her phone book, then i put gps on that byotch so i can find her ass!!! yea...thats right!! thats how this old man rolls!!! (now shes got unlimited text, a special texting phone with a key board and shyt, no gps and i aint gotta a clue who the fuk she talking too....becouse...apearently, thats how she rolls)
