  • ingesting swimming pool water

I'm very concerned. My daughter went swimming at my mother inlaws swimming pool 2 days ago. Today is be day 3 after swimming. I've noticed before, that she swims underwater with her mouth open sometimes. She's been told not to do that.
So. She got back from grandma's house and went right to sleep. Then she said she wasn't feeling well, and was running a very low fever, hovered around 99.6(give or take a few tenths) for a couple days, until this morning. She not running a fever, at all, this morning. I filled her script for ********* yesterday, so we started that. I'm getting worried because she's full of energy all the time. Full throttle or sleeping. dodging every nap she can. She's just laid around, and been lethargic for the last 2 days. Today she can't even take her antibiotics, and I'm having to make her drink some fluids. She hasn't actually been sick yet, but I don't want her to have an empty stomach if she does. Her remembering how terrible that once was is what has given her the drive to down some Gatorade.

I have a cousin that services swimming pools. He's going by to check the pool right now. He's the reason I learned that she was drinking the pool water. He asked me if that's what she had done. He informed me that that will make someone very ill. I'm hoping we don't have a hospital visit on the horizon for this.

That child had only been sick 3 times in her life until last year.(She's 5yrs old) She came down with something, running a fever over 100-101+ about 2 months ago. I took her to the Dr, got her meds, and she got better. This has happened a few times where she gets ill after going to grandmas and swimming in the pool.

Well, I just got off the phone trying to find out some more info on what I feel is the issue. Swallowing pool water can be very bad. Especially if the company that takes care of that pool is reckless in cleaning and opening it to let people swim before it's ready.

So, anyone ever had their child get sick after swimming, and swallowing, swimming pool water?

Horse i said a prayer for her. It could be anything really. If she isn't resting much then her immune system could be down and being around other kids could be the issue. I could only think a lot of pool water would have to be drank to get sick... Then I would think it would be diarrhea or vomiting.

I hope that your daughter will feel better soon, horse. She might have swallowed chlorine which of course isn't good.

                  Re: ingesting swimming pool water

Thank y'all much for the kind words, and wishes!
We went ahead and took her to the hospital not long after I posted this. She was complaining of her sides hurting, (kidney area), and that child is never lethargic like she's been the last couple days, so I got very concerned! Thankfully, she's okay. Nothing serious. She just has her 1st urinary-tract infection. The doc told us to stop the *********, and gave us a different antibiotic that will target the infection better.

This thread, and immediate family, is the only bunch that new about her ailment. I believe in the power of positive thoughts, prayers, etc...so from the bottom of my heart. I want to thank you guys for just putting a positive thought our way. Thank you much. we thank you.

She's already back to herself. which has been missing for a few days. That girl is always on. 103 degree temp, and you'd never know, but she wasn't moving off the couch, so I got very worried about this.
                  unrinary tract infection...thank you...

Aww thats great news HP that shes back to her old self!!!Whew, I could see how you would be very concerned about that. I dont think drinking a lot of pool water with chlorine or bromine in it would be too good for a person.

                          Re: ingesting swimming pool water

i work for the health dept. we do pool inspection and there are some pathogens that are hard to kill even with chlorine.

normally 2-5 ppm of chlorine wont cause any probs if ingested. although chlorine can increase sensitivity for allergies and cause sore throat

if the pool has had kids who wear diapers in them some of the waste matter can get out and contaminate the pool. crypto, giardia and e coli can survive for some time in chlorinated water. even if levels are brought up to 10-15 ppm it can stay virulent for some time.

dont swim in or allow your kids to swim in pools where toddlers in those swim diapers are allowed to go in.

parents are always holding the child and dipping them in and out of the water like a poop tea bag

yeah. If that shyts going on, my mother-inlaw wouldn't notice it as anything out of the ordinary. Brilliant woman, right there. I don't have a difficult time getting along with people, but the one's that clash...it's evident quickly. I got along with this woman (mother-inlaw) for many years. Ever since my daughter has gotten a little older, and I've heard of some recklessness on that woman's part...I have nothin much more than a cordial "hello & bah-bye" for that woman. The incidents haven't been anything that some might even frown upon, but I'm a little more protective of my girl. And, it's just been a couple little incidents with my daughter, nothing that's hurt her physically, but stuff that's boiled my blood. The words, "stupid-b^%#" fit well. 2 masters degrees or not. The woman has no sense. She used to read, no bs, the woman would read books to my wife and her sister, while she drove them to school every morning. Read them strories...read fukin books to them as she attempted to drive. The woman can't drive worth a shyt either. She's wrecked every damn vehicle she's owned. Brand new 4-runner a few years ago. Hit a parked car the 1st week she got it.

Anyway...anyone that knows me, knows that someone that would make such reckless decisions with children's lives...anyone's life...I have nothing for 'em.
Ya take care of people. Everyone. I believe in helping everyone. Doing the best you can for people. That's a very strong belief I have. So hearing of someone neglecting a loved one...that doesn't sit well with me.
I believe that's one of the reasons we're here. One of our duties as humans for humanity. To genuinely help one another. and not go blabbin & boasting about how we helped so-&-so, or this elderly...ya know what I mean.
That good book even mentions that as one of our duties for humanity, or 'thy neighbor'. So help folks. Don't harm them. Even the ones that are difficult to stomach you might dislike so much. I'm becoming a pro at that with my mother -inlaw.lol...My wife has it made with my folks. And she knows it, and loves them. My mother has been by my wife's side through the toughest times my wife has seen, and is always there. Always. My wife's mother took note on nurturing and true loving support when she got a chance to witness someone with genuine heart and feeling. An instance that took place 2 yrs ago shook the core of this family, and put both, my mother and inlaw, in the same hospital room. Instead of understanding why my wife looks to my mother for caring support, my inlaw missed the whole thing. and still does.

There...I feel a little better. Thanks for the counseling session fg!..
