I stayed in a big lodge in estes park that was full of game heads. there was an elephant head mounted on the wall with a picture of some dude standing next to the dead elephant, holding his rifle and trying to look macho. Like walking up to an elephant and dropping him dead with a rifle is some kind of manly thing to do...please. Must have cost a fortune to have that elephand head cut off and mounted and shipped all the way to a lodge in colorado.

man. I hear ya. I was watching a dude on a "big game" hunting trip over in Autralia?..maybe??? It might've been Africa. The guide was Australian. Anyway. They were hunting bull elephants. The guy that was on the trip had refurbished a beautiful rifle that was owned by a famous American hunter that elephant hunted at least...50yrs ago. I forgot the timeline, but the rifle was old. Absolute beauty of a rifle. I forget the caliber. But the point was the man had obtained this famous hunters rifle, and he took it on a hunting trip back to where the original owner of the rifle bagged many-a-elephant. He had a picture of the hunter, back in the day, standing by a bull elephant holding that rifle in that exact place they were hunting. I was amazed just seeing all the huge elephants they walked up on. The guy that was on the trip mentioned how he couldn't believe the size of the bulls they let go because there were much bigger tusked bulls. They even had a native of the land guiding the guide. They needed him because he could tell them which had the biggest tusks because it's so difficult to judge the tusks from a distance. They had to keep their distance, of course, because those big bulls would charge. You wouldn't want to get tripped up with one of those jokers after ya. But, I agree with ya dzone. I couldn't drop an elephant. That has to be somewhat of a psychopathic type of personality. To travel all that distance just to shoot the biggest bull elephant you can find, just for kicks, thrill, or bragging?..something's not right. to me. That's just me though. I just need more rhyme to my riddle. or vice versa.

Hmmm thats a good question IPL. Not sure how much they are tortured in zoos, but is not any different than if someone came and shot you with a tranquilizer, threw a net over you and you woke up in a cage the rest of your life. I do think zoos try to make their life as close to a natural habitat as they can, Ijust dont know. I have gone to the zoo. Is the zoo interesting? yes. Is it right? I dont know. I am prob inclined to say its not cool.

I had a friend say to me once "Im going up in the mountains to shoot a big horn sheep"..I said "wtf for? Do you eat big horn sheep?" he said 'NO, we just want the head for our wall in our house"...Trophy hunting is just pure bullshit.

IPL...yea...i think they probobly are pretty bumbed to be locked up like that as apposed to roaming free, but i dont care. i want to take my kids to a zoo and see and learn about animals that they would never have the chance too, then oh well...their not being killed and they are there for observational purposes.

With zoos, you have a whole different breed of people operating them. For the most part it seems. Like Jack Hannah, and that Steve "croc hunter" dude that took a stingray barb through the heart. Those people are truly animal lovers, and are for what's best for animals.
The Circus on the other hand. I've only been to one when I was a kid. I went with my friends and their parents. That's some raggedy ass shyt, the circus is. and you can just tell those aniumals aren't happy. I rode an elephant in a little circle pen, like they do poneys. How degrading is that for an elephant. Throwing kids on him all weekend, and make them walk in that tight circle. What a life.

Some of those big game hunters, that travel abroad to hunt, feed entire native villages for weeks from their kill. I watched a guy take down a bull hippo. This hippo had snagged people out of their boats that traveled down the river. He was one hell of a hippo. He hunted people for fun. So this American went down there. Got him with a bow. yeah. That was pretty cool. He did it like the natives try, but with a much better bow and arrow. He got to take a couple pictures of it on the edge of the river bank where it lied. Then the villagers bum-rushed that hippo and carved him up on the spot. They were dragging pieces of meat that took 3 men to drag. That hippo fed hungry people. And the hippo had acquired a thing for hunting people for sport. So, I can't hate on that scenario.

I've been all over the US and Canada hunting trophies, but we always eat what we kill. I was raised eating more deer than beef. This year my wife and I killed 2 elk 2 whitetail deer and an axis and fallow deer. We eat this all year instead of buying beef.
I hate people who just go hunt for the horns and don't keep the meat.
