  • setting the record straight!!!

ok...just want to make this clear for the remaining smokers on the board. all you guys who keep putting off quitting and you hear all these people telling you how you get your breath back, you can smell better, food taste's better i just want to say bullshyt!! i quit smoking back in april and i figured i'd give it time, but it's been long enough. food that taste's like shyt, still tastes like shyt. things that smell like shyt, still smell like shyt (oddly enough my farts still smell like bananna's and vanilla), and i dont have anymore stamina on the treadmill than i had before. other than saving me money (which is reason enough nowdays) i can honestly see no reason to stop. if i were in a better financial situation, i would quit denying myself the simple plesure of a smoke now and again. (exspecialy after sex and a good meal....oh and if it was a good meal during sex, thats even "sweeter yet" pleasure i am denying myself, so...you know...that sucks)

WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE LIGHTING UP...JUST GO CRANK YOUR CAR AND PUT YOUR FACE BY THE EXHAUST AND TAKE DEEP BREATHS...

MY GRANDFATHER DIED WITH LUNG CANCER FROM SMOKING..AND I KNOW IT TAKES A WHILE TO HAVE THAT HAPPEN, BUT WHY MULTIPLY THE CHANCES? IF SOMEONE IS TRYING TO GET THEIR BODY IN SHAPE, WHY DAMAGE IT OR YOUR LUNGS BY SMOKING?

    IL NEVER UNDERSTAND IT...

BUT, HELL NOW DAYS - YOU NEVER KNOW WHATS GONNA GET YA. SO ILL BE QUIET AND YOU CAN FIRE ONE UP!!

My Dad God rest him, smoked 4 packs a day camel no filter. I would try to get him to quit, because I loved him and hated to see what it was doing to him.i.e;coughing his toenails up every morning as he was smoking. He was a heavy drinker as well. My Dad was also a former POW during WWII,German side. He died in 1989 of COPD,emphysema, etc.I was suprised he lasted that long.He was a tough ol' guy,I miss him alot.Anyway all the crap he went through he lived the way he wanted to live.

Gonzo i feel ya on that one. I tried the same with my dada who was a heavy smoker and drinker. We would speak about it often. During this time, he had 5, yes 5, heart attacks. After a while, it started to put a drain on our relationship. One day I sat him down and told him i was never going to say another word...and i didn't. One morning while visiting at his home, we started to chat. He said to me "i have pain in my arm". Five seconds later he looked at me and me at him and his head hit the kitchen table. My dad died in front of me from a massive coronary. I will never forget it and will be thankful to have spent his last few days with him.

I smoke occasionally, when I drink and after sex and while I'm driving and after I eat and while I'm walking and when I'm by myself but other than that i don't smoke.

That's my point Dave, my Dad went through a bunch of shit, who was I to try and stop him from having a pleasure ? It just took me a long time to realize many things about my Dad. I figure if you want to smoke have at it! I ain't no health nut,I chew tabaco, smoke cigars, drink rum and cokes, shit I'm suprised I don't have pot plants growing out of my ears for all that I smoked in high school and after too. I'm on a rant sorry dude, time to hit the pillow! Whatever you do man just enjoy life, it's too damn short to be worrying what's gonna happen tomorrow.

God bless your dad man! I think it's good too that you were with him at the end. I didn't have that,I was young and stupid, and pissed off about shit that happened when I was growing up.My sister was with him at the end though. That's the one thing that makes me crazy, one minute I'm here the next,? That's why I try to enjoy life,it's what our dad's would want us to do,I'm sure of it!

I remember smoking heavily during long party weekends in my younger days, and I could tell it dulled my taste-buds for a day or so. And I know cigarettes smell bad. Hell, they don't taste too good either. They make your hands smell like shit. But, I'll still enjoy a cigarette now-and-then. I think the way I smoke is perfectly harmless. It's proven harmless, to me at least. I smoked 4 cigarettes yesterday. I believe that's how tobacco is supposed to be enjoyed. Sorta how Daved mentioned. After a really good, flavorfull meal,(not right after. ya gotta give the taste of the meal time to set. I can't just light-up 2seconds after I put my fork down. That kinda ruins the great taste.) but also, after sex. Which leads me to the other times I'll enjoy a cigarette, and it's those special little moments we get to really think, or reflect on something. The calming effect of a cigarette goes well with some time of deliberation. And again, that's why they're nice after sex. because it's a liesurely intimate time of a kind of deliberation.
