We picked up our new member of the family, Crash, yesterday. He's half American Bulldog, half Pit Bulldog. He is an absolute baby. He's 8 months old, so still very much a puppy, and he acts it. He's a big ole boy though. I had to return for the X-Large harness...big boy. He obeys amazingly. It is something else how he picked me as his master immediately, submits right away by rolling over, and just displays love and affection to the whole family. My daughter has fell completely in love with him already. She thinks he's just the greatest.
Where the problem lies is exactly where I knew it would. With the old man, Morgan the Captain. our territorial terrier. He's 10yrs old, and has never got along with another dog in his life except one, and he just lost her a little over a week ago. But I knew it would be tricky with another male. And more than tricky it's been. Crash is so gentle. Ya know how a puppy, or any dog, will bite you a little when you play rough with them. Just lightly bite, but sometimes those teeth get ya. Not with Crash. He will not let his teeth touch you. I wondered why the guy at the shelter said, "he's just gumming me". I was thinking, "he's got teeth. What do you mean gum?" But that's exactly what it feels like. I mean you feel no teeth. It feels like he has none. And I mean I've rough housed the hell out of him, and he is nothing but play, and submission to me. A total sweetheart. The poor guy, Crash, looks like I've taken him dog fighting now though. Morgy has gashed the heck out of his face and neck. He got his lip so bad this morning, Crash grabbed him up by the hair on the head, and when I got them apart, I thought Morgy, the terrier's head was laid open because of the blood, but nope. That was Crash's blood from his mouth. Out of all the fights, and the 5 or so times that Crash got a second, he just holds morgy down, or picks him up by that spot on the neck and shakes him a little. Not one mark on Morgy from Crash. He will not hurt a flea. But damn, I feel so bad for him. All he wants to do is play, or even walk by for that matter now, and Morgy jumps his shyt and there's another gash. Then Crash had enough, and started to go for morgy this morning, but he still wouldn't bite or hurt him. I don't know what he's doing..???Just a glutton for punishment I guess.
So, at the words of. "we're gonna have to find Crash a home." My daughter just went into total broken heart mode. And for one thing, I have always been strongly against that getting a dog and giving it away bullshyt. You commit, and deal with it. Whatever "it" is that people think they can just shuffle a life around like that for. So, I guess we just gotta keep them separated. Maybe when Crash matures some, he'll understand where morgy is at. But I've never really disciplined Morgy. I've let him show his teeth at me over the years. He learned this morning that he will never do that again though. I got through to him about that this morning. He didn't show 'em again either, at me that is. I don't know if he'll ever ease up on Crash.
All in all Crash is the best dog I could ask for. He listens. He's smart. He has the best, easiest, sweetest, fun-loving, playful disposition I could ask for. I just can't put it in words what a fine dog Crash is. That's a breed that would make some money. I've heard of the Labrodoodle. This American/Pit mix is one great mix. Of course, it is what it is, and all the cliches that go with bulldogs, but hands down, one of the greatest! I just wish I could get Mr. poopoo head Morgy under control. I'm wondering if I have them both neutered, how much that might help.
