Gas, no doubt. I have got both. I use my gas grill 10 times as much. It is great for someone who watches their diet. It is quick and simple. I have got one that does not take lava rocks, it is the shizzznit. It came from Sears and I think it is a
    Kenmore.

Definitely gas. If you have natural gas lines even better - you don't need the propane bottles all the time. I grill all year 'round. Nothing tastes better.

Depends if you are a purist or if it is a functional thing. Gas grille is so easy and quick that you (if like me) will grille almost everything.
The charcoal grille is a better taste and maybe better for those big event type thing like 4th of july pool parties where you will be spending alot of time in prep anyway so why not do it wit charcoals.

I love the taste of charcoal but I never seem to find the time to clean up after I'm done. Nothing like scraping gunk out after a couple of days and a hard rain and you didn't dump the coals. I gave up on that after a while and went with the gas.

yeah.... agree.... charcoal is fun when you have time to stand around with a beer in hand and play with it... but the propane will give you much more use.....

I only break out my charcoal grills for special occasions because they are too much trouble. Of couse one is a 55 gallon drum grill I built the other Is an old propane tank on an axle so you can tow it behind a truck. Nothing like a mobile bar b q.

Those are the kind you can put 1/2 of a cow on and still have room for hamburger buns.

                    Both!!

My BBQ is also one of those propane ones that doesn't use Lava rock, but rather thoso brick-like slabs of rock.

I've done this a couple of times now... pull off the grill and take out the hunks of brick (about 8 pieces). Put the charcole down, light, then put your grill back on.

The only sucky part is cleaning it after. But for the 2x a year I use charcole, it's definately worth it.

gas ... it's 100x easier to use and it's not a tedious process to get going ...

the charcoal may taste better, but i hate getting it heated up.

Did anybody ever see the King of the Hill episode where Hank's wife and kid taste burgers grilled on charcoal and become closet charcoal freaks?
