Re: who takes aderall
I was put on Aderall in college. It will help with concentration but I hated the side effects. I was unable to sleep even when I took only 20 mgs in the morning. It supressed my appetite to the point where I had to make myself eat (obviously not good when youre trying to get a high number of calories). Worst of all it made me into a zombie. All of the side effects combined, sleeplessness and not eating enough, would all work together to completely zap me of natural energy. I would ask your doctor to try Strattera firtst. It is not a stimulant and doesn't have nearly the adverse side effects.
FYI:
Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant composed of four amphetamine salts: amphetamine aspartate, amphetamine sulfate, dextroamphetamine saccharate, and dextroamphetamine sulfate (the last salt is also prescribed alone as DexedrineŽ). Adderall is a stimulant and appetite suppressant. It stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain) by increasing the amount of certain chemicals in the body. This increases heart rate and blood pressure and decreases appetite, among other effects.
While the exact mechanism is unknown, it is believed that Adderall works by blocking the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine into the presynaptic neuron and increasing their release from the presynaptic neuron into the extraneuronal space. In other words, Adderall reverses the reuptake mechanism, turning it into a pump instead of a vacuum. The result is an increased flow of dopamine and norepinephrine into the extraneuronal space, which causes the brain to experience a more intense level of concentration. This allows for the ability to focus for extended periods of time.
Adderall is habit forming. Physical and psychological dependence may occur with the use of this medication, and withdrawal effects may occur if you stop taking it suddenly after several weeks of continuous use
