  • Underwater logging....facinating!

A Ghanaian conservation research centre will assist a Canadian company in harvesting underwater trees in one of the world's largest tropical hardwood forests. G

They are saying each tree could fetch up to $60,000 EACH! And this is a man made lake. I just hope they pass some of the wealth to the citizens who live in the surrounding areas and the government doesnt get their corrupt hands on it!

Does the wood not lose it's integrity after being submerged under water for long period of time? Are you not spending more money and time on an inferior product? Why would someone be willing to buy wood that is weaker or at best of equal strength for a more expensive price, when they can go to a above water logger that sells it cheaper? Just wondering.. :/

Supposedly the oxygen level in the water has preserved the wood. I thought the same thing. My dad is a bit of a wood expert and was telling me about this. Its going to be some of the most expensive wood that you can legally timber in the world. Makes me wonder if this will open a can of worms or really be a beneficial thing to these people who live on pennies a day.
