Re: lawmakers to lower the drinking

I remember in Oregon in the 70s when they were thinking about changing the drinking age from 21 to 18 because you can vote and go to war, then steve Prefontaine crashed and killed himself and that changed that whole Idea.
Could you imagine being 18 and driving drunk and killing someone? But hell, you can vote and go to war. With my job I see the affects of car accidents from DUI at least 2 or 3 times a month. You should see what it's like to have grieving family members come up to these accidents. This is a bad idea.
I can remember when I was 17 and got pulled over, the cop poured my beer out and told me to go home, do you think that would happen today?

Re: lawmakers to lower the drinking

^We had to pour out full 1.75s and cases at times. Those were the days.

But on the whole, people are irresponsibe at any age. Old men die ignorant. Many 18 yr old young men and women have more sense than many mid-20s folks. I just can't back the whole responsibility argument. The choices after alcohol is entered into the equation are when resposnibility comes into play. And if given the proper up-bringing/parenting, that's the 'maker or breaker'. Telling someone 'no, you can't have that' while I sit and enjoy it, usually only creates a desire for that banned substance, or whatever.

It sounds like most of us drank our share before 21. Hell, if it came in shares, I had mine before 18. We had a little different guidlines around the house than alot of families though. And drinking responsibly was taught firm earlier than most, I would imagine. because our pops knew dam well we would be drinking at the ages we were.

I don't think laws create responsiblity, nor age for any matter. That's all on the parents.

Dave I agree on a lot of your points. This was a big problem with a lot of Veitnam vets returning from war.

personally I am against it. soldiers drink anyways, and do stupid shit.

it would only get worse if it were legal

Re: lawmakers to lower the drinking

This argument is moot. They wont be lowering the drinking age anytime soon. There is far too much opposition and no politician wants to be known for voting to give children the right to drink. Done. Case closed.

You just agreed with dave150 that they aren't children but when it comes to this issue they are. Wow, double standards and your conscious of it; at least your not ashamed of being irrational.

I yearn to discern the rudimentary nihilistic values I believe I perceive you espouse. I mean, certainly your position is, to you, logically preferable to any other in regard to the moral value of one action over another.

Your not yearning to discern any of my values and if by the smallest chance you are - your way off. I am opposed to nihilism and you would probably fit that mold better than I would. Given the results of your arguments you believe the majority should be able to enforce their morality on the minority with government force and to hell with individual rights - that would be defined as a nihilistic character trait before individual rights and logic would be but keep trying.

LOL...So you really think someone opposed to lowering the drinking age is a nihilist? Good grief, now thats a stretch...LOL...nice try!...oh man.

PS- Can you provide us with the facts to back up your assertion that the majority wants the drinking age lowered? Please, we are waiting..thank you.

Jesus Christ, you had to of failed reading comprehension in school and you accuse me of misinterpreting sh1t?

I'll go through this one more time real slow for you. You brought up nihilism; stating you yearned to discern my rudimentary nihilistic values. Nihilism holds there is no objective morals or values; as a result enforcing the majorities morality on others with government force would not be considered immoral, which is more similar to YOUR position than mine. So, I never stated people opposed to lowering the drinking age are nihilists; I stated you and your arguments fit the mold of a nihilism more than I do.

I also never stated the majority wants the drinking age lowered. I am of the position that the majority does not have the right to infringe the rights of the minority, unlike your position that condones it. I don't even know where you got the idea that, I think, the majority want to lower the drinking age but please continue; your confidence far exceeds your skills to back up your positions.

You try to show off your intelligence with the loftiness of your rhetoric, but your grammar makes you sound like a a grade school dropout. By attempting to put me down youve made a fool of yourself.
You say I "had to of" failed reading comprehension...Hmmm, "had to of"???Looks like you , my friend, failed english 101. Check your grammar, then Get off your arrogant, self righteous and judgemental high horse and look at your own faults...obviously You are so busy pointing out others apparent failings that you are oblivious to your own.
This was a llight hearted and civil discussion until you turned it into a shyt throwing contest with your personal attacks.
Youre lack of writing skills is exceeded only by your arrogance.
                            I'm done.

So now that you can't defend your pragmatism, your double standards, your philosophical accusations or even your insults; you resort to correcting my grammar. Wow, your so smart.

Bro, ask anyone on here I don't initiate personal attacks or pissing contests with anyone but I am all for challenging those who do.
