I don't really care if people are delusional but I don't think expressed irrational beliefs should have refuge or go unchallenged; they should be exposed for what they are.

wow...so you just spend ALL DAY walking around challenging everyones irrational thaughts!! dude..there's SOOOO MANY irrational thaughts in the world being expressed, how do you decide where to start each day! how do you pick THIS one of being the one with enough merrit to challenge over THAT one? dam...wish i had your time. (jk)

i dont agree with atheist. i dont really try to argue or challenge them. some would say, that's becouse i would lack the "logical" element of the argument, therefore, i'd not have an argument to make...i tend to think that i'm more of a live and let live kinda dude and dont have a need to challenge your "rational" or "logical" thaughts on most subjects, including that one....my god tells me "fuk it, thats the whole free will thing...we'll straighten them out later".

funny thing...(not picking on ya stray, just an observation), why would an admitted athiest ask for others to throw out a prayer for someone or something? in a previous thread, stray, being compassionate for another human, asked folks to send out thaught's and prayers. why request prayers? doubts?...a "just in case" thing? (looking for my boy klash's thaught's on this)

Re: why i am an atheist

To tell ya the truth, I'm on the fence on the whole thing. There's so much information out there, (a few virgin births, a few global flood accounts, etc...) and I'm just not sure what to believe. I certainly believe in the possibility of God, but you have to ask if he does exist, what's his level of involvement? Why did he choose a single race as "his people"? Why at one point was polygamy and bangin your concubine fine but not now? Why at one time was murdering children fine? Why was slavery permitted?
To me it makes perfect sense that there is or was a creator, the odds of intelligent life coming into existence are so low that it almost had to require some sort of intervention. You guys can check out reasons.org for more on this aspect.
Klash makes a good arguement but I've seen/heard some major intellectual throw downs between on the subject and they always turn out the same, no answers on either side with both making excellent points.

but to answer your questoin..no..i have no doubts..i asked for people to keep them in their thoughts and for those who believe in god to pray simply because i know thats what christians do when times get tough or tragedy happens..you know **** well i stand firm in my beliefs...lol
i just ask for people to express their hopes in whatever way they see fit...and for a vast majority that is prayer....

No, I don't go looking for it but when people start expressing their delusional beliefs around me, as if they were facts, I will challenge them - especially when they make statements like their supernatural beliefs are logical.

Your god is more influenced by the eastern philosophies. I have much more respect for those influenced by the eastern philosophies because bigotry is not a result of their belief system but there are still irrational concepts these philosophies are built around.

I don't ever ask for thoughts or prayers. I will inform people of a situation I am going through if it is having an impact on my life and regular routine and if I am thinking of someone, I will tell them so but I do not think it will directly help them in recovery but it may indirectly help them knowing that someone cares for them and will help alleviate any of their responsibility they are in need.

Let me make a few distinctions here. You think the hypothesis of a creator makes sense but you acknowledge the fact you cannot prove the hypothesis so it should remain only a hypothesis - it should not graduate, in your mind, to a belief (an idea you hold to be true).

So, it sounds to me as if you are open to hypothesis' for our origins but you don't believe them without evidence - this position makes you an atheist; you do not hold a belief in a god.

When you believe that both sides of the argument are making excellent points you are giving credibility to theists they do not deserve. Imagine for a moment that we lived in a predominantly atheist society and someone (a theist) claimed, "I know the origins of existence".
Our logical society would respond "what are our origins? and how do you know?"
The theist states:"a very powerful and omniscient entity created everything and I know this because something had to create it".

People give the theist argument credibility it doesn't deserve simply because society is highly theistic but if you put the argument back in context at its conception and acknowledge that if the founders and original adherents would have required evidence upon the first moments of its ideological existence it would not have survived.
