Re: why i am an atheist

If I needed to debate either side, I could wilfully defend either the threads you showed christianty toughted life for a bazilion years. I'm not a church going man so forgive me if I'm wrong but I believe the bible went 50,000 in the past as far as creation?

Don't let it get to you bro; just recognize that it is fear that drives the theist; bigotry is a side-effect. Fear of a permanent death, fear of being separated from their loved ones forever and fear of injustice or no justice is the motivation. These archaic fictitional beings give people hope from their ultimate fears, so they ignore all the things that don't make sense about the fundamentals aspects that they build their imaginary friend from.

I think that is why persuading someone to deny their religious dogma takes a very long time; from their perspective simply questioning their belief is risking their survival - which none of us are willing to do but as an atheist thinking is not viewed as a risk.

Fear isn't what makes, or 'drives', each and every theist. That's a pretty good summarization of a great portion of the organized religion base, but far from some.

i was shown a good point about all of this last night...at one point in our lives we are ALL atheists...its not until we are indoctrinated that some choose to believe in god..but at birth we are all atheists...

I don't see what else would motivate someone to lie to themselves on such a fundamental level. If they serve a god they can't see, hear, smell or touch, i.e. they can't defend their belief; it offers them some psychological comforts or they wouldn't have the irrational belief. That is why god is such a good sell; we all die and we're all scared of dieing and we're all scared of our loved ones dieing. Accept this one belief and we can delude ourselves that all that won't happen and all we have to trade for that is to deny logic and for most people that seems like a good deal.

...but I'm open to hearing of other motivations.
