This isn't that great of an addition to the thread, but an atheist friend of mine has a cross tattoo for his friend that died. I asked him why he had a cross if he doesn't believe in that stuff. He replied that the cross is just respectful symbolization to him.

The first Amendment is about Freedom of Religion.

Our legal system and our government is based on the common people having religious beliefs of some sort......when you are sworn in to office and when you testify in court, you are sworn in "so help me ***". Whomever your *** is.....doesn't matter what type of Religion you practice, it is generalized to all. Also, our currency has "In *** we Trust" on it....again, it doesn't specify the Christian ***, Allah,...

The intention wasn't that the two were separate, it was that the government wouldn't set up laws instituting a mandatory religion, or laws persecuting those of a specific religion. This was the issue with the European governments our founding fathers left when they came to the "new world".

Not trying to start a dispute as much as offer ideas to consider....

So that's why they chose the word 'church' instead of 'g o d'. (church) implies religion, but (church) has more coverage than (religion).

To have freedom of religion, you have to be free from religion. To say that the government Should endorse a belief in "g0d" because it is not being specific as to what ***, I think is a Christian in a predominantly Christian nation feeling comfortable with the majority. Muslims would say Allah is their term for *** and I do not think Christians would be o.k. with "In Allah we trust" on our currency - of course the Muslim would state the term is a general term for ***.
From an atheists point of view, do you not think that the government using the term "***" is endorsing religion in general?

The currency and the pledge of allegiance added g0d to them in the mid 20th century and i don't' consider much of the last hundred years of being consistent with the constitution; so that doesn't mean much to me.

*** no bro!!! im a 2 time vet myself bro...i wouldnt think of disrespecting my fallen brethren...thats not what i was implying at all..i meant from courthouses and schools and the like...

cool...sorry. courthouses, schools...i dont care. but the vet's? dont fuk with them. it dont matter to me either way. i have my belief's and dont need anything to re-inforce them or whatever
