I also read the book last night and it was completely different from the movie, in this the vampires are intelligent and they take over the world in the end and execute him for killing so many of them! That is why it is called "I am Legend" as he is a legend among the vampires!

I thought it was pretty good. For some reason I thought it was going to be different. I wish that they would have showed more of te buildup (the flashbacks) as to how everything got the way it was. But it was worth seeing.
