The question would be, do you think that any parts of God's persona are contradictory? For example, you and I both have the capacity to love and to hate. Does that contradict who we are? Assuming we are both generally peace loving men, wouldn't you agree that if someone broke into your home to hurt your loved ones it would be perfectly alright to kill them to prevent it? Does that make us contradictory or does it just say, that "to EVERYTHING there is a time and a season, for every purpose under the heavens" (Ecc 3:1)
2 a time to be born and a time to die
3 a time to kill and a time to heal
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace

It is no different for God. During the history of man, God has revealed that at times he is the all consuming fire and at others he is the creator of everything that is. At times he is the judge, jury and executioner and at others he is the compassionate forgiving father longing to bring his lost children home. That doesn't make him contradictory. It defines him.

One, we aren't bound by the old Jewish law anymore as Christians, at least not the majority of them. I know the Jesus said "I am not here to abolish the law but to fulfill it" (I'm not dead on with that quote but close, lol) which says to me we are no longer bound by it.
We aren't bound by all of it and we aren't bound to follow it as a means of salvation, but just for example do you think that Jesus doesn't expect you not to commit adultery? We are expected to love our neighbor as ourselves. If we do that, would we murder him, steal from him, sleep with his wife or desire the possesions that God has blessed him with? I don't know how to describe it, but there is definately a sense that we need to obey these commands, not as a means to salvation, but perhaps as a means of submitting to God to demonstrarte our love for him and our fellow man. Additionally, I can't remember exactly where, but the New testament tells us that one of the purposes of the law is so that we would know what sin is. It defines it for us so we don't have to ask, nor can one man say what is sin for you isn't sin for me.
