Re: Confused about a couple things Biblical
The question would be, do you think that any parts of God's persona are contradictory? For example, you and I both have the capacity to love and to hate. Does that contradict who we are? Assuming we are both generally peace loving men, wouldn't you agree that if someone broke into your home to hurt your loved ones it would be perfectly alright to kill them to prevent it? Does that make us contradictory or does it just say, that "to EVERYTHING there is a time and a season, for every purpose under the heavens" (Ecc 3:1)
2 a time to be born and a time to die
3 a time to kill and a time to heal
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace
It is no different for God. During the history of man, God has revealed that at times he is the all consuming fire and at others he is the creator of everything that is. At times he is the judge, jury and executioner and at others he is the compassionate forgiving father longing to bring his lost children home. That doesn't make him contradictory. It defines him.
