If you are having trouble staying logged in when navigating between forums/topics/etc., you need to reset your session cookie. Go into your browser and delete any cookie for the site them log back in. This should fix the login issue.
And Im sure more than "one drop" of coffee will cause a button to get stuck. NOt tryin to harrass you but def more than ONE drop of coffee will do this.

i would say the A/C switch probably is just sticking from the coffee. The smoke you saw could be from the ignition switch and probably was.. I bet if you get the switch replaced and maybe a new battery if the old one is bad, you will be good to go. Ask them why they say the control unit is bad if the A/C is working fine... Doesnt make since, the control unit being bad would cause all settings or at least some to not work. it is basically the computer that controls the climate control system.

overall it sounds electrical versus mechanical, it's like they put the plug in the computer and it said, x y z are not working, they go too book, and it says x y z parts
versus really trying to find out the problem
i had a light that wouldn't go off on my dash in reference to "brakes" now my breaks were not bad, yet, we spent 800 bucks flushing the system, putting new sensors in, changing master cyclinder, and the damned light never went off, these guys had done 700 other dollars worth of repairs, I wanted and requested, changing out a pivot arm etc. the damned light was, hey see if u can figure out what it is, i would have been super pissed, yet, the guy doing the work was cool, and scratching his head, and trying his best
anyways, finally parted ways, 3 months later back at my regular place where get most of work done, and the guy says, "oh, all's we have too do is reset the computer, you're battery probably got low, and light came on and would not go off" so, he reset computer, light went off, no problems
fortunately, never had brake problems , but it is bothersome at times, if i remember correctly i tried to get it fixed cause i was going on a several hundred mile trip and was worrried about being stuck in the boon docks, and haggling with someone who had an axe over my head if i broke down

WHILE DRIVING THAT WOULD SHOW A SIGN OF THIS BEING MELTED... SO THIS CONTROL UNIT IS A ONE PIECE THAT IS OVER $1000 ...

if its still working why are you replacing it? Just get the switch and put it in and the wiper motor. If you can do it yourself it will save you money but all shops charge around 100 an hour labor. When i do work at the house here I charge 60- 80 an hour depending on the job...
Do it yourself, it will be a lot cheaper. Also, you should read consumer reports before buying your car. I wanted an AUDI A4 so bad, but the consumer reviews deterred me far away from AUDI automobiles.
