How about the governments(Sate and Federal) cutting their taxes we pay per gallon of gas? It is as high as $0.60 per gallon in some states. That is a 100% margin of profit for government.
I know I'll hear the argument about having to have gas taxes for highway construction and repair, true. But does it have to be so high. why not set it at $0.30 per gallon? This would help bring the price per gallon down some.
Maybe I'm missing the point, but sueing someone or a company has never really brought a solution to anything. In the end, the costs are just passed along to the consumer. IMHO, that is what will happen if OPEC is sued,they will just pass the cost along to the consumer.

How about the government nationalize the oil and gas companies, mandating that a govt oil company can not make profit and that all gas has to be sold at the cost of production.

30 years ago there were approximately 350 oil refining sites in the usa, since then we now have approx. 100

NO, not one, none, have been built in 30 years, yet, we have how many more mercicans, how many more cars, how many more illegal alines, can't forget them, lol

why have they kept up with pace, well, just like whateve biz you're in in the last 20 years these oil guys have gone thru incredible tech changes, producing huge efficiencies etc. etc.

unfortunately, it's getting harder more expensive to find oil

rig counts have gone up from 1200 too 1700

from reading research papers, books, and talking to a some oil companies, the barnet shale trust and some smaller ones here in texas, when oil started ramping up in 2004 I smelled opportunity and set to getting as much information as possible, yet, could always use more

i know the area you're talking about I have not heard those projections

what i keep on being told is that saudi arabia vastly over stated their reserves by several fold when they dragged the multi-national companies there in the '80's, and there fields are becoming harder to pump and depleted faster than anticipated

yes, we got plenty of oil, yet, getting too it now based on worlwide demand and demand to come, we're presently behind and trying to catch up

also there is the issues of future contracts, folks talk about risk premium etc., and yeah they are getting some premium bucks there, yet, contractually there are some big players on the line that have to supply x amount at x dollars no matter what, so it get's a little hairy when you talk about the reality of things

Suiing Opec is definitely the answer. They are price gouging and making record profits, where does anyone get off defending them? So while they are ravaging our economy, and severly hurting the lower income bracket of society, they get to make record profits and swim in a canyon full of money, instead of a warehouse full! Yeah, sounds very logical to defend these people!

I swear it's this same mindset that allowed Bush in office a second time.............Wait a second......I think I'm seeing many of the same people defending Bush, defending opec. Hmmmmmmm...........weird coincidence!

let's look at steel companies, steel companies right now are printing money and will for the forseable future, like 7-20 years, anyways, you couldn't give away a steel company from 1980-2000, no body wanted em, they shut em down left and right, why?

steel is used in lot's of stuff but the major growth and demand comes in autos, and huge mega infrastructure spending

right now worldwide, auto's are going up up up and all those third world countries that have cheap labor and all there folks have jobs will now build, roads, hospitals, schools, utility plants for the whole country, historically that is what wealth does too countries

back too the huge huge huge huge steel risk

supply and demand, normally if you cut price enough you can stabilize demand and eventually increase it, not so with oil, when folks don't need steel they just don't go out and buy it because it is cheap and getting cheaper

so let's say the dems get in congress and say everyone has too drive hybrid cars, can't sell oil cheap enoug then, and it goes to a buck a gallon, what do you do with the rig you have in the gulf that costs you 5 million a day to operate that you now lose, 100 grand a day on, you have invested let's say a 100 million bucks into the rig, and everyday that rig bleeds pukes up money loss after money loss, who pays for that, who is on the hook

also, what the hell does opec do when it runs out of oil, that is the only only natural resource besides sand and salt water it has, what does that country do then, what would U DO IF YOU WERE THERE PRESIDENT AND THEY WERE YOU'RE CHILDREN

is this high price they are getting, causing massive hunger in american streets, are corporations going bankrupt

I lived in Pittsburgh so i know alot about the steel industry....and it had nohing to do with spply and demand...the steel workers union broke them...plain and simple...a janitor in the steel workers union was making $25 an hour, plus 5-6 weeks vacation, and 16-18 personal/sick days...and thebest health ,retirement beneffits in he nation...to push a broom! The industry hasnt slowed down...the plants are all just overseas.
In utah, there was the newest, biggest, most high tech steel plan in the country...Geneva steel....2 years ago the chineese bought it, and they tore it down piece by piece and hauled it to china on shipps!!!! They said it was cheaper to do that then to operate it here and pay all the bull**** union royalties, and EPA taxes/fines!

If you followed the news, you'd know that congress passed a bill to have the rights to sue opec, oil companies, gas stations and anyone caught price gouging for the sole purpose of making huge profits. So that covers all of the scumbags that are raping us!

Opec is purposely making less oil to make supply and demand higher. I made a post about a half year ago b@tching because prices were low, and Opec said it was going to cut it's production in half because they weren't getting what they wanted per barrel of oil (but for nearly 20 years it was plenty money).

I flipped saying that they were going to force prices over $3 a gallon in a few months, and everyone else didn't care, because the current price was at or just below $2. I knew these prices would get out of control, and I knew what they were doing.

Then all of a sudden you hear all of these other bullsh*t reasons why the prices are high, when everyone forgets what the real cause was. OPEC CUT PRODUCTION TO FORCE PRICES UP!!!! THEY EVEN SAID THEY WERE CUTTING PRODUCTION BECAUSE PRICES WERE LOW! SAD PART IS PRICES WERE HIGH COMPARED TO THE PRICE PREVIOUS TO THE PRICE SPIKE. IT USED TO BE $1.45 ON AVERAGE. THAT WAS FINE FOR YEARS. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN $2 WAS WAY TOO LOW SO THEY HAVE TO CUT PRODUCTION??!!!! GIVE ME A F'N BREAK!

Oh and Opec can be sued that's why they have what is called international law. My cousin is an intenational lawyer.

And no they can't pass the cost down to customers, because cost is what they were being sued for in the first place, so they would be fined and sued till they closed their doors. Go read the two bills that just passed about this. You'll see, it makes it so there will be finally relief for us, not so they companies can gouge us more! BUT BUSH SAYS HE WILL VETO IT! AND STILL I GUARANTEE PEOPLE WILL STILL BOW TO THIS GUY LIKE HE'S SOME SORT OF GOD! UNBELIEVABLE!

i do remember your post awhile back. i do admit, i have heard something about the bill, but havnt really dove into it. kinda got my hands full at the moment, so i missed the tying it all together thing...i still dont see going after opec. i dont think that'll ever happen. i didnt read the law proposed, but i have a feeling it was somehow just smoke to make the public feel they (congress) was doing something for us, which i dont believe they really would. must be a few loopholes in that bill to keep big oil pumping money into their campaign funds, so you wont hear me cheer for congress just yet. as far as your "guarantee" of people bowing to bush...i dont bow for anyone, and your starting to wear me out with that! opec controlls the price per barrel dj, not the cost per gallon. they dont give a shyt if it's givin away to people!! as long as they get x amount of dollars PER BARREL! oil companies dictate the cost to you and me per gallon...them and government taxes! taxes those congressmen fight to get thier hands on! so as you wave you perverbial anti bush flag while standing proud in front a congress you deem to be our savior, watch your back...they carry knives also! smoke and mirrors...
