Now oil prices rose sharply because they caught 172 saudi militants that were going to strike oil fields. Does that sound ridiculous to anyone else?

Shouldn't prices be going down because they didn't strike and were caught? That's how you know we're being screwed! They can continually make up stories and tales of things that were going to happen.

That's like saying We're going to raise the price of a gallon of milk to $30 a gallon because aliens planned on eradicating every cow on earth except one, but were foiled when zeus threw lightning bolts at the aliens and killed every last one saving the cows. But we'll raise the price anyway, because it could have happened!!!!!!!!!

Wait until hurricane season. If one even gets close to the Gulf of Mexico, prices will go sky high just because of the threat of it stiking the gulf.

By the way DJ, the Saudis were the ones that caught the Islamic millitants.

This is my theory - Ever since we went to Iraq the price of gasoline in the U.S. hss shot up like you know what. Right before the war the cost of a gallon was just around a buck. now it is over three times the price. So, considering the cost of war, which I don't know specifically but have heard figures anywhere from a billion dollars a month to much more has to come from somehwere. Have we had our taxes increased? have we had to give up governmental services such as police, fire, road constructions, the support of illegal immigrants, or even school, hospitals, and welfare to name a few? no, we as civillian citizens haven't had to give up anything, our way of life in the states has not really been affected, with the exception of fuel prices... so there you have it, simply add two and two and you will see that the increased cost of fuel has to be funnelled into the war... I wouldn't put it past our government to conspire with the four major U.S. oil companies, Exxon, Shell, BP, and Texaco to increase the cost of gasoline and take that money to fund the "war on terror" If this was made public I am sure we would all whole heartedly agree to pay for the war.... anyway, it will come to light one day, mark my words.

any excuse they can use, they will!! and, it's like that in other industries as well. when i was in fla. i owned a produce stand (3 of them) with my dad. everytime the news ran about a POTENTIAL freeze, the price of tomatoes would sky rocket! most people didnt even pay attention to it, but it was along the same bs as this

it was just on the news...a gas station owner up here posted signs on his pumps that he's on strike!!! he turned the pumps off! (mobil) he asked if other station's in the city could shut off there pumps for 1 day to show the oil companies that this is bs! it'l be intresting to see if this ends up being something or just a blurb on sat. morning news!

A buck? I hate to tell you bro, but gas has not been around a buck for about 15 years which is way before this war ever started. It was around $2, but no where near $1.

With that said, you have to realize that oil prices are determined by OPEC. They can do whatever they want and it has nothing to do with the USA or any other one country. OPEC is a group of coutries that produce oil and they make the rules. Unfortuantely for the US, it includes the Middle East and Argentina and other places that dislike us. So, as a result, we have to pay what they say. Right now, due to the environmentalists, we do not produce enough oil to supply this country. Even if we did, we don't have enough refineries to convert the crude oil into gas. So, we are 100% at the mercy of OPEC.

This is why we need to switch to Ethanol. All these oil guys can switch or retire. The conversion of corn into Ethanol is a clean process and it burns clean, unlike crude oil into gas and the burning of gas. The environmentalists are in support of this and they would not limit the number of refineries because it would not jeopardize the environment. Also, we would be able to add 100 times more corn fields, maybe more, and that would create American jobs.

Ok, I'm off my soap box, but I do agree with you, the war is not helping the prices.

hey they have to boost profits and if a failed attempt to sabatage oil fields is available then dammit use it even if it gouges your own people in your own country

Hydrogen would be the true answer to all our problems. It is very possible to become affordable. BMW is now testing Hydrogen cars to the general public in Iceland.

There is an infinite amount of hydrogen available, and it would be super cheap! This is what they should concentrate on!
