#2 ..although in an ironic way he may have been good for our country, i think his extreme public ignorance has woken lots of people up to the bigger picture.

I think he's better than Clinton anyday, could we do better? Your going to tell me Al Gore's big fat ass would have been better? anyways Bush has been a "decent" president, nothing more nothing less...he will be forgotten someday like other presidents less memorable.

FYI boys the days of an Abraham Lincoln are long gone...you have to be bread into politics much like the European nations our forefathers left. Lincoln would never have been heard of in our day and age.

Re: FG`s George Bush Approval Rating

His low approval rating all boils down to Iraq. The war has been mis-managed, and as Commander-in-Chief he deserves blame. No one can defend him on this issue. The good things the administration has accomplished (i.e. no further attacks on our home soil) are overshawdowed.

I agree with 6p6. He'll go down in history as an average president (no JFK or Lincoln but no Nixon either), although I believe his proactive approach to fighting terrorism will be commended as the years pass by.

There is definitely some validity to that argument. Placing his totally incompetent buddy Brown in charge of FEMA is a glaring example.

However, had he listened to Powell (a man whom I greatly admire), we would have never invaded Iraq to begin with, and Bush's approval rating would be 60%.

Yeah, I dont think we would have gotten all these spying acts and patriot act passed under Gore. I dont think we would have such a mess in Iraq under Gore either. So yeah, I think Gore probably wouldve been better. And if Gore managed the federal budget like his buddy Clinton we might not be so much in debt right now.

how does he not deserve blame? he called for the war with out permission, the "war" is going on directly because of his decision making its not like congress had much of a say.

For crying out loud, did you bother to read my post? I said 'the war has been mis-managed, and as Commander-in-Chief he deserves blame'.

Without permission my ass...Just about everyone 'believed' that Iraq had 'weapons of mass destruction'. Congress gave it's stamp of approval. Many of the democratic hopefuls in the presidential race that supported the decision are now flip-flopping.

History will judge the totality of his presidency, not one mistake/decision. For the record, I believed it was a mistake going to war in Iraq, contrary to what the majority of Congress (both Dem & Rep) believed. Iraq was pointing their sling shots at us while Iran and N. Korea were/are developing nukes and would not hesitate for one minute launching one in our direction. I would have prioritized differently.
