    Re: Am I a Racist?

maybe because im in NY but i dont see much of this at all. I dont see a problem with minorities having their own groups etc.. BET wouldnt be a problem if it wasnt named bet, so who cares (theres whites and latinos on it all the time) . Its not like these minority colleges etc wont allow outsiders in.

IMO its human nature to side with people who look like you and act like you compared to people who dont. Kinda like Americans and how they view other countries as inferior. Most of the time its not true, it just forms a sense of comfort and makes people feel like they belong.. Thats why most of the time joking about another group , minority or majority should not be viewed as racism

But that's the point they are purposely setting up stuff for themselves only. Like you said BET should be called something else, not because it should really bother us, but because people would be up in arms if there was a WET!

The government automatically awards contracts for construction jobs to any company with the most amount of minorities. Go on a government site and do a race count. I've got some family that are head foremans and they tell me all about the bull**** government minority favoring!

Also white people cannot join any of these groups. I'm not eligible to get a grant from the united negro college fund because I'm not black. Now if we had a fund like that we would be racist. Why are they allowed?

That's the problem with all of this political correctness in the world. Society has forced it down our throats that it's ok for every race to seperate themselves from society and make color specific clubs, organizations, funds, or programs. But it's not okay for white people to do it. That's a complete double standard and is about as hypocritical as it gets.

Did you know that they have a miss black usa? If there was a miss white usa there would be black people in bus loads picketing outside screaming racism.

      It's just complete trash!

Thats exactly how I tell my friends. Im not racist against certain groups, just certain people in those groups. I have more respect for some black or mexican people for example than some white trash pos that makes me ashamed to even be white. So I basically dont care for trashy people of any race in general.

          Re: Am I a Racist?

Well, i will say this, everyone wants equality, right? So why does everyone feel the need to have isolated groups. When groups have things like the 'Black Movie Awards', that tells me they don't really want equality. IMO

If any group really wants to be equal, they wouldn't keep going out of their way to segregate themselves. I'll give one more example and end on this....FUBU clothing, stands for For Us By Us. Yeah, that's the attitude of someone who wants equality alright. LOL

well fubu was like 10 yrs ago but, maybe minorities have these groups because they still feel segragated to some extent. It's hard to judge when your not a minority.. I do agree that the double standard is b.s (as far as racism) but i understand the desire for separate groups..This really isnt something that bothers me.

              Re: Am I a Racist?

Yeah, it doesn't bother me, it just seems silly to form isolated groups when in fact your goal is unity. If I want to get to know people, I don't hang out with people I already know. That defeats the purpose. IMO

Growing up in ATL I've seen some really bad racism on both sides. The people who seemed to be the worse were the ones who never ventured out of their comfort zone and actually got to know the people they stereotyped. Not all Blacks are ghetto gangbangers and not all whites are redneck crackers, but in certain areas of the south, that's what people believe. Since I was born in Sacramento, I was introduced to different cultures as a kid. My two best friends as a little kid was this little balck kid and this little hispanic kid. So, I never really understood the hate by color mentality, until I got to ATL. You make the wrong turn down the wrong street and you will soon find yourself in a position where you are being judged by your color for no reason. You go through that enough times and you begin to start to have negative feelings for certain people. But, here in Colorado, man I have no issues with anyone. There isn't any racism here. There's no history of it. Even people who came from areas where there was a history of it can tell, it's not an issue here. It makes things very nice.

I agree on all points. I'm not singling out any one person or one race in particular. But what I'm saying is, think about this. Why can a black comediene look out in the audience and say something like "Y'all are crazy crackers in here!". But if a white man says "You all are some crazy niggers in here!", he's made out to be a racist. Look at Jackie Mason in Vegas. Jimmy the Greek. Why are there double standards? Why can't I start a White Entertainment Channel? I'd have Al Sharptons fat ass on my front step protesting.

there was a time when blacks had no rights. that has all changed and I feel there is some over compensation to make things right. but its still not equal. America is full of people who's policy is based on emotion. we feel guilty so we want to make up for it. its not fair, but it makes us feel better about ourselves

I find it funny, but if people were 100% honest on here, I would dare to ask the question of how many people here grew up in perfect utopic white America? It's usually the ones who grew up in the $500,000 house with the maid, and mommy and daddy's matching BMW's that are the ones that look at every angle of the racism thing. They say how bad it is, and make excuses for the minorities, which is happening here. However, those of us who grew up in less than perfect utopic white America conditions are more realists. I went to a high school where the ratio of blacks to whites was 2-1. My old neighborhood where I was born, I wouldn't even walk down the street during the day time now. I've LIVED the stereotypes. I've seen them with my own 2 eyes, and heard them with my own 2 ears. Being a white boy in a lower middle class home, it drove me to be a better person. It made me get a college degree and do something with my life. How come other less fortunate ones can't? Is it laziness?

I wouldn't call it laziness, I would call it products of hteir environment. Statistically, more people in low to lower middle class don't accomplish any more than their parents did. It's just the facts. They aren't taught it at home, they aren't taught it at school and they aren't taught it by their freinds. They develope a mentality of 'this is as good as it gets'. Most of them that is. There are the few who refuse to accept it, and those are the ones, like yourself, who achieve more than their parents did. The same is true for upper class kids, most of them will follow in the shoes of their parents, but, a select few will grow up to be dead beats with no will or desire but to wait until mommy and daddy kick the bucket so they don't have to work. I would be willing to bet that the percentage of low income kids who fight their environment is about the same as that of the upper class kids.

Most kids are going to buy into what they see their parents accomplish, that's just a fact. They buy into the idea that they can't do any better, and why wouldn't they? It's not like they have anyone to tell them any differently. That's one thing I will give the state of Georgia big props for, the HOPE schollarship. It basically goes like this; any kid who graduates high school in Georgia with a B average or higher can get a free college tuition. All they have to do is maintain that B average throughout college and the state will pick up the tab. That is by far the best program out there. It tells kids, 'it doesn't matter who you are, or where you come from, just get a B average and the doors to a college education are available to you'. That's it. Now, there has been some changes though. The University of Georgia used to be a pretty easy school to get into, but when this HOPE schollarship thing kicked in, the University was losing money. So, they raised the entrace SAT score, and kept raising and kept raising and now, you have to have a1360 just get into UGA. But, and this is another great thing about the Georgia college system, a student can go to a community college that in the Georgia college system for two years and transfer to one of the major Universities or Technological schools and have all their credits transfer too.

The only think stopping kids in Georgia from achieving their dreams is them. All they have to do is their school work, study, get a free college education and them go get the job they want. That's it. Just think about all the kids who do all that and can't go to college because their parents can't afford the tuition. I'm actually surprised that more low income families don't move to Georgia just so their kids could take advantage of these things.

I grew up in the rich area, with the rich parents, and I don't look at it from every angle sticking up for minorities! My school had 2 black people in it and that was from k-12!! It was almost completely white! Plus all the surrounding area's had very similar percentages as my town did.

My point is I feel it has nothing to do with your upbringing, but more with your personality. My parents are racist, I am not. Actually my entire family is racist, I'm basically the only non-racist person in the family.

I get sick of people sticking up for minorities when they segregate themselves with all of these clubs, programs, funds etc. Noone ever has a good rebuttal to the points both angry and I mentioned. They just beat around the bush, and say it's all okay just like society taught them to do. It's not acceptable by any means, and I don't see why everyone is so accepting of it.

If minorities are pushing for equal rights, than they should expect equal rights to white people, not rights that are better than those of white people. Because that would then make them superior not equal. So this fight for equality is actually a fault to one up white people.

Plus all this crap about feeling bad for them?! WHITE PEOPLE FREED THE SLAVES!!!!! WHAT IS THERE TO FEEL BAD ABOUT? THEY SHOULD BE KISSING THEIR LUCKY STARS WE CAME TO THEIR RESCUE! BUT INSTEAD OUR THANKS IS HAVING LESS RIGHTS THAN THEM?????

Like I mentioned before I will fight for any minority if I feel they are being discriminated against solely because of their color or ethnicity. But I would fight for them to have equal rights, I wouldn't fight for them to have it better off than I do! Why should they get a break, and I don't? Life is just as hard for me as it is for them!
