You have to find out certain things first. If the friend is terminal, then what is the sence in paying off something that he/she will not keep, that is of course depending on if they have a wife/husband and kids. Let the relatives pay it off if there are no wife and kids! I have a feeling not much of some of the ppl here had experiences with inheritence or relatives that are squandering over a deceased persons assets. My wife and i knew of an older woman that lived in a senior apartment. She had asked me once about a living will and i gave her an attorneys # to get her stuff in order, even told her that id take her. She never did take the steps to make sure her assets were going to the right ppl. Mind you she never had one relative vist her. Later she was on vicodin for pain from some probs she'd been having. To make a long story short she had cancer and after that everyone was like vultures at her money and went into her apartment taking everything without any permission cause she didn't have an executor. Ppl act like they cared about her now, but only me, my wife, her closest friend that lived next to her, and my dad know how things were. Her sick relatives didn'nt even let friends at her apartment know of her death. Just a quick memorial and from there to the grave, very sad. They were fighting over her money for 2 months. I doubt very much that if ppl actually had the assets to do something for someone that they would do it without hindsight. You have to also make it deductable, lol!

Let's say you had a friend who has cancer. And because of the cancer, they were going through financial difficulty. And it's a VERY good friend. Now, this friend is about to lose their home because of all the medical bills and stuff. They are behind on their mortgage severely. And you know your friend is not one for charity. They don't want or like when people help them out. It embarrases them.
NOW, you have the chance to help this friend out financially. Even pay their mortgage off for them. Would you:
            A) Make a private donation to your friend without YOUR own name being mentioned, because it would make you feel good inside.
            or
            B) Would you have to make it known it was you making the donation. because you figure, "Phuque, that's a lot of money coming out of my pocket. I want everyone to know I was the one that paid it off!"

            BE HONEST!!!
I'm with Mick, not enough information but generally speaking I could give a valuable friend an anonymous financial gift, if it would not be sacrificing my families needs in anyway but if I was donating to some general fund for people I didn't know - they better name the building after me!

True, I was just assuming that the friend has a family at home otherwise, like you said, what's the point in paying anything off.

Would payoff what ever I could for them without them knowing about it.
I don't need or want the recognition for helping out friends in their time of need
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!

Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!
