Good God, that sounds like a replay of the story I was telling you! It happened alot like that. We both fell into the 'transitional boyfriend' phase. That's worse than the 'just friends' phase becuase you get your hopes up more.
I think you played it smart. When it happeded to me, my ex's girlfriends told me that she was seeing her ex so I blew up on her. Well, she lied and I caught her, but none the less, not a smart move on my part. It got down and dirty between us. She even tried to get her dad involved and had him call me and threaten me (dumb move), so I told her mom that dad killed a guy once in a bar fight. This was something he told only his daughter and when I let the cat out of the bag, the whole family was having problems. This girl and I got so close we told each other most of our personal secrest and this was one of the things she told me. I also told her mom that her husband was threatening me and that I should probably go to the cops with all the info I had. Her mom always liked me and totally took my side when she found this out. Like I said, their whole family starting having problems, and for what, because some stupid ***** wouldn't just tell the truth. All she has to do was be honest and I would have excepted that but she didn't. She told me she had nothing for her ex and her friends told me the real story. Her friends liked me too and hated her ex so they were more than happy to give me the details. When I called her on her lies she accused me of spying on her and I told her the info came to me, I didn't go looking for it and that just pushed her over the edge. She drew first blood with something she said about me and I finished it.
Hopefully, you avoid all the things I did. Even if she does go back with the ex, just chalk it up as a life experience and move on.
