I thought pulling it yourself is ok but when others pull it, its bad?
Your allowed one credit report per year from all the bureas that will NOT hit yoru credit score. You have to go to some website, I forget it, and request your free credit report. Any time after that you run your credit and any time you run your credit you lower your score.
Alot of people "shop" for rates with different companies and that is DUMB. If you have good credit you shouldn't need to shop for rates, as you should know what your going to get. If you know your credit score you should know what rates you are going to get. When you shop for scores and they take your Social Security number and Date of birth they are more than likely running your credit. By law the company HAS to tell you that they are runnin your credit but I've worked in a few places and they aren't so honest and just run your score anyways to see if your even worth dealing with. So becareful and don't shop for rates.

i would have to completley disagree with almost everything you said. First off, i have almost an 800 credit score...pretty high...high enough to qualify for the 0% apr from the car companies, and get the lowest mortgage rates....Way low.....
Well anyways, when i bought my house last year, i had offers from 6.75% all the way down to5.5%...which i ended up taking...plus the incredible diffrences in closing costs from diffrent lenders.....my "DUMB" shopping around saved me $200 a month in mortgage costs, plus alot in closing costs. FICA will take into consideration, a bunch of inqueries in a very short period of time, and not effect your score much
So use the credit repair guys or just do it on my own? I want to do this the right way and get my credit fixed ASAP. The 2 sites I like, one is noted at the top charge about $100 to setup and then $40 a month and they guarantee results. Is there a company you would reccomend?
I would let these guys do it personally, they know exactly what to ask for to get it removed. The place most of my clients use iscalled Veracity (sp), it's in Denver and they kick ass. They charge less than the place you quoted above. I think they are $75 to start and 30 something a month until it gets to where you want it.

Damn.... so whats the concensus here? Go to a credit fix place or try to do it on my own? Im telling you guys it has to be pretty bad around 500 or so. It all happened about when I was 17-20 ish, now Im 25. I just want it fixed, such a burden on my life.
I've read that I can pull my own credit all day everyday and it wont affect my score but some of you say it will.....whats with that?
So yeah kinda embarrasing but when I moved out of my parents house when I was younger I got in debt and never paid it off. Any credit repair places or anything that you guys suggest? I found this place but dont know if its bs or not.

Crombie, I had some credit problems about 7 yrs ago. I talked to some bank officers and read as much information as I could find. The best thing to do is pay off ALL debts first. Next, eliminate all but two major credit cards (visa, mastercard, American Express, etc.). You do not want to have more than two or less than 1; however 2 seems to be the magic number. Do not keep any store credit cards. Then, try to charge on them every month and pay the balance in full each month as well; this way you avoid finance charges and interest. It looks good that you can carry a balance and pay it off every month. Also, if you can aquire a car loan or if you already have one be sure to pay it on time every month. Car loans and home loans are the best for establishing good credit. Be sure to check your credit every few months to be sure nothing bad is appearing on it. It does NOT affect your score when you run the check on yourself. Go to annualcreditreport.com to get a free report from each of the three agencies. You are entitled to one from each once a year. Follow all of these steps and you will improve your credit.
Also, bad credit falls off after 7 years from the date it was reported. Good credit remains on for 10 years. Some reports will tell you the date something is coming off. Transunion is good about that.
If your parents or someone that trusts you has good credit then you should ask them if they would be willing to add you as a joint account user to some of their credit cards that have a good history and low or zero balance. This can dramatically increase your score in as short as a couple of months. For example, if your parents have a few visa cards with high limits and low or no debt on them (and they don't really use them much), ask them to add you to those MAJOR CREDIT CARDS! You do not want to maintain more than 40% debt to limit on a credit card. A debt above 40% will cause your score to drop.

I asked the credit agencies directly over the phone about checking your credit and they assured me that it does NOT affect your score. I don't care what anyone told you differently, it does NOT.

Cool. Right now I dont have any credit cards except my debit card. Should I get one of those cards you have to pay for to get setup with to start helping my score?
