  • Ideas for a new job?

So yeah I put in my 2 weeks, 2 weeks ago at my job where I was managing the bar. Its just so slow there and boring, it wasnt what I wanted. My General Manager didnt want me to go, offered me a raise, told me Im an asset to the place and that I still have a job if I ever need one.

I got a job at a place thats closer to town at a not so nice restaurant but its very busy all the time. I would have to start out waiting and then move up to bartender or management within 2 months they said. I went in there the other day to fill out paperwork and Im not impressed at all. I've only worked at nice places and actual bars, this place is a cheesy franchise and I dont know if I want to work there.

There isnt really many places in this town to just go bartend at. It was a bad moving choice for me and as soon as I can leave, when my lease is up, Im moving back to Austin, Portland or to somewhere tropical resort spot where I can bartend. Its just my thing and I love doing it.

So Im thinking either go to this place and wait tables just so Im not cutting into my savings or find another kind of job. I was thinking maybe go work for a cell phone company, I dont know what the pay is but you get a free cell phone so thats cool. Or maybe working a few days a week at a GNC or Vitamin World type place, so I can get discounts on supps/ free supps. Anyone have any ideas for a good job to jump into that has good "benefits"? I clean up really well and have done mostly sales jobs and bartending/ serving.

How about a job working as a sales rep for alcohol? Maybe a sales rep for a local beverage company. You obviously know booze. What sells, what doesn't.

Yeah I might do that. Good idea. I can just call up my old reps and see if they're hiring. I heard they work a ton of hours though.

Yeah I would def consider selling my body for sex. Haha. As long as it was clean and I was making money for my favorite thing in the world I would be happy.

Why don't you go to school at a local secondary college and find a part-time no stress job, if you can afford to do it. You need some kind of education or skills that are marketable in todays workplace. Get into infomation systems or just take a look at the colleges courses of study. Maybe you can apply for a grant to help out with the cost. There are alot of 2yr courses that let you obtain a certificate in some programs, like building trades, manufacturing, robotics etc. You are still young enough to go, don't wait till your like 30yrs old, cause by then employers will want to know what youve been doing the past 10yrs since you left high school.

I got a job with Bacardi one summer. It was one of the best jobs that I have ever had as far as partying goes. I had to get my CDL so that I could drive their party truck. Me and my buddy would drive to the big bars in major cities that they told us to and basically get people drunk. We would hand out all kinds of crap that said Bacardi on it and then have people get in the back of the party truck, which had couches, and chairs and crap.

Look into something like that crombie if that interests you, I cant tell you from personal experience that it is def. worth it.

Yeah with my goals right now there is no way I would do something like that. I get all depressed after I have a few drinks at the bar once a week, like Im totally effing up my body.

...dunno...i like trade/labor type jobs myself. the coal mine i work at, everyone makes between 70k-100k a year...depending on how much ot they work.......and the oil fields around here are paying $30-35 per hour......power plants paying $25-30 hour...not bad...none of them require any schooling and are all over 70k a year with full benefits. all the guys i grew up with went to 4+ years of college, and only a small percent can hold a job making over 50k a year.
