My personal conclusion after going through too many years of catholic school and having my questions answered by the nuns and priests by being told "because the bible says so" is that i'm jaded. A book written by four men, with the way human nature is, what are the odds that they slanted the "truth" the way they wanted it to come out? My feeling is, if Jesus wanted to start a new religion he would have renounced his jewish faith and/or preached against it. He didn't. Like so many religious folk, i feel these guys after his death said "there's a buck to be made here". I went through all these years of being preached at that God is all powerfu, all knowing but.....He just can't handle money, and he needs you to give him yours. Please don't take that offensively, it's just my point of view. I believe in Christ and I'm a Christian, it's the human aspect of the organisation i have issues with. Jesus preached about praying and confessing your sins to God in private. Then came the time when the church leaders wanted to know what you were up to and lo and behold, all of a sudden you had to confess your sins to .....a man, and if you didn't you weren't forgiven. And then came the inquisition, a fine example of Christ-like behavior eh? I'll shut up now before i piss everybody off

        Re: DaVinci Code

Big Dawg, Interesting viewpoint. I agree that the reason "because the bible says so" is not the proper way to educate or indoctrinate.

I completely disagree about the disciples trying to make $. There belief led to persecution and death. Paul did not live a life of luxury.

I also agree that the Catholic Church as gone thru many periods of corruption..........it is run by humans. I am protestant, so the whole confess to a priest has never made sense. However there are many things about the Catholic Church that I admire and respect.

After reading your second post I really believe that you would enjoy the book I listed. I hope you consider it. The author really plays devils advocate and you will not hear any “because the bible says so” responses.

        Cheers

I bet your local library as it, mine does and they have the audio version. I listen to at least one to three audio books a month during my daily commute.

Your also forgetting all the parts of the Bible that were excluded b/c it didn't fit their views at the time. The Da Vinci Code brings this up, and there are more verses, not just in that movie, that have been written by followers of Jesus that have been rejected to not make it in the Bible due to various reasons.
