    Re: Biceps pain

Never had it in the bicep, but do have it in the tricep at the insertion point on the elbow.
Attached picture shows what happened about 18 months ago.
Tore the tendon from the elbow,approx.95% and split the tricep in 2 places.
Was benching with pauses at 325. This happened when putting the weight BACK in the rack. Go figure
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!

Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!

                Re: Biceps pain

Strange thing, It never had much pain. Even when it popped, there was very little pain.
Went to the Orthopaedist, no surgery, just some meds and few weeks rest.
Yeah, like I was going to stay out of the gym. Did my own rehab work for the elbow. I have approximately 95-97% use of the joint and tricep.
Nothing that a lot of hard work and sweat didn't overcome.
Kite, ae you gripping the bar with a full wrap grip when benching? Also, how tight are you gripping the bar? Sometimes a very tight grip will cause some pain at the insertion points.
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!

I do thumbs grip and I squeeze the shit out of the bar, it helps to keep my entire body tight. I usually go middle finger on the rings but I was thinking about bringing it in to maybe pinky on the rings and see if that helps.

                    Re: Biceps pain

That may help. I find that I don't squeeze the bar very tight, just a good solid grip, but still keep my body tight.
I place my ring finger on the bar ring and don't have any problem.I also tend to lay my hand back and let the bar rest across the area that runs diagonal from between the thumb and 1st finger and exits at the bottom of the palm.
(The line where the natural fold of your hand is located), For me, this seems to distribute the weight more evenly down my forearm and puts lesss stress on my joints. But then again, everyone is different. Hope this will help.

                      Re: Biceps pain

A narrower grip emphasizes the arms more. Use a wider grip to decrease the stress on your arms / biceps & triceps.

See, that's why I think EQ is an esential part of every cycle. Most tears are actually in the tendon, not the muscle. Of course, once the tendon goes there is the potential to add additional injury to the muscle but it's the tendon that goes first. A guy I know looked just like your pic after benchin 395 for reps. He said he felt it but he went for one more rep. Then, next thing you know, he's out of months. I'm kinda glad I'm a puss at benching, no worries about tears. LOL
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.
