What's the purpose???

What's the purpose in having REP if its solely based off of everyone whoring up threads and just slinging it to each and everyone without reasons? I have less rep than some of the people that joined a year ago and its because I don't take fake rep. I don't think this was the intentions when the rep indicator was established...To a newbie it looks like JOBLOW is the most trusted person on the board because he has soooooo much rep but in reality he is just a post *****....I'll stop ranting now, but it just doesn't make sense.

I dont mind the rep threads....I rarely take part in them and try to give rep accordingly but if rep is given to me by someone...I do try to return it.
